How do status credits work?

Can someone help me with this equation?

- Currently Gold (needing 400 status credits to renew)
- I have 403 status credits
- But the status credits page says I have 283 of 400 to renew (my review date is 23 June)

If I have 400 status credits now, shouldn't I be renewed?

Thanks.

VA uses a 12 month rolling renewal - you need to have earnt 400 in the 12 months prior to your review date. In this case, you've only earnt 283 in the 12 months prior to your review date. The rest of your 403 status credits are from before 23 June 2022 and don't count towards renewal.

You need to keep in mind there are two tallies here.

1) A total of the number of status credits you have earned in the last 12 months. This is a rolling total, and is probably what the 403 status credits refers to. This number determines when you can move up to Platinum
2) The number of status credits you have earned since 23 June 2022. This is the number that will determine whether you retain Gold. This is likely the 283 status credits. You will need to get this to 400 by 23 June

403 = earned in the 12 months between 17 December 2021 and 16 December 2022 (today) which counts towards upgrade to Platinum
comprising
283 = earned between 23 June 2022 (last review) to 16 December 2022 (today) which counts towards renewal
+
120 = earned between 17 December 2021 and 23 June 2022 (last review) which doesn't count towards renewal

The app on iOS has always confused me. For example, right now it says I have 915 credits. I know for sure that about 160 of these will roll off come late December. But the little card says I need 85 more status credits before 28 Feb 2023 to upgrade.

Once late December comes around, those credits will roll off. So I actually need 85 before that date, and a heck of a lot more by Feb. Been like this for years, strange there’s no fix?

edit for clarity: the Virgin Australia app proper makes this error. The Velocity app is very clear it’s a rolling total from 12 months.

There used to be a way (and perhaps there still is) to get a table up that showed how many status credits you needed that took into account this rolling off.

I've never seen it since being platinum, and don't know how to get it to show....

Log into Velocity:
My Velocity --> My Status --> How far are you from upgrading

Here is what appears above the table:

FUTURE UPGRADE OPPORTUNITIES
Status credits expire and are removed from your balance 12 months after the earn activity date. Your status credit balance may go up or down on a daily basis as credits are earned or expired. Velocity members can upgrade to the next tier as soon as they have earned enough status credits in the preceding 12 month period. Eligibility to upgrade is reviewed every day. The table below shows your upcoming status credit expiry dates, your status credit balance on the last day before the expiry event and how many additional status credits you would need to earn on or before that date to upgrade to the next tier.

I agree that the Qantas system is certainly easier to understand, but the Virgin method, though confusing, is more to your advantage when you are moving up the ladder.

However, once you reach the dizzy height of WP you still get the confusion but with no benefit ... 😉

Hi all

Does anyone have experience with late posting (and backdated) status credits that would have led to a status upgrade if posted on time?

I have had status credits from June post today but since then more have expired, meaning I’m still short of WP.

Will this be picked up somehow, or will I need to ask for a manual review?
