How can I find out where the aircraft for VA68 is? And is it stuck in Wellington?

I was on the cancelled VA66 from Brisbane to Wellington this morning, and am now on the 6pm VA68. However I don't want to make the rather long trek back to the airport if the physical aircraft is stuck in Wellington.

Is there any way to tell what physical aircraft is assigned to the flight, and where it is?

I have tried the GCC but all they can tell me is what I see on the web, that it is still scheduled for 6pm.

Looking at the Wellington airport website, it still looks like flights are being cancelled over there.

It's not fool proof, but sometimes I track the departing gate for my flight against the arrival gate info to see where the flight is arriving from.

At the moment, based on a departure gate of 76B, your aircraft is either coming from Port Vila (VLI) as VA180, scheduled to arrive at 17:10, or (less likely) VA189 from AKL at 00:12 (+1).

Tools such as FlightAware or Flight Radar can then give you tracking info http://flightaware.com/live/flight/VOZ180 (though others will be able to advise you of their accuracy or otherwise).
