In preparation for getting keys at some point soon, we've begun booking in things. Moving is still an essential activity, but I'm unsure about flooring installation or any of those other things. So we will wait and see. In any case, flooring isn't booked until over a week away so perhaps it will be okay pending how Canberra fares with this current outbreak and lockdown.

Assuming all goes well, we'll be moving in early September :D

I will have to wait and see if the lockdown is extended.
Well yes, it did get extended, and so our flooring will be postponed until it's allowed. Which pushes everything else back. We still haven't heard about getting keys despite the final payment going through last week. I know it may be tricky in this current situation, so I guess we will have to wait (im)patiently.

Will we be in by Christmas? Maybe we should place bets on moving dates?

The pause button has been lifted!

We have got everything re-booked in, should be getting keys early next week ahead of flooring later next week. Moving in by the end of the month. Fingers crossed nothing else changes.
The restrictions are quite tight, but given we have an unoccupied property, things can resume safely in line with requirements.

We have the keys! We got them yesterday actually, but I missed most of what was discussed with our site supervisor as I had a call I had to take. We had packed the car with stuff to take so it wasn't a wasted trip, heh.

We set up the modem to get internet which now means MrD can work from there as our home internet is at 90% usage and we have to survive til the weekend. He at least uses a laptop while I'm on a PC which is decidedly not as portable. We should make it to this weekend before being shaped. The perils of working from home, streaming TV and playing online games.
So today, MrD set off for 'work', with a packed car again.

Unfortunately flooring can't go ahead tomorrow as the lead installer is unwell (not Covid) so it's been pushed back til next week. Ditto painter. But as we had about a week gap between that and the removalists, they're still on track. The gap is now only a couple of days, so hopefully nothing else has to get pushed back.

MrD also reported a visitor at the new place:

Not much more to report since the last update. More things moved, and we went through and made a list of things that need follow up fixing, as well as things we'll have to do ourselves post flooring. Which is happening on Wednesday (touch wood).

Once the flooring does go in, we'll have to go through and do a clean, as there's still a fine layer of dust everywhere. Nothing a damp towel (or several!) can't fix though. Not long to go now.

I think I've mentioned before that next door has chickens, including a rooster. Well we heard a new sound the other day which was either a goat or sheep! Still better than our current neighbour's quite yappy dog.

I'm so tired! But we're in! We spent our first night in the new place last night. Everything hurts. So much cleaning, lifting, moving, packing, unpacking...

And of course it had to rain! A few minor casualties with some book boxes getting wet, but hopefully they'll be okay.

Still some more things to do and move before we can officially say goodbye to the old place, but we're nearly there!

So we've been in just over two weeks - there's still a lot of stuff to sort out and put away, but we're getting there. I've got an afternoon tea booked with friends for Halloween, as by then I can have 10 visitors. So that's my deadline to really make sure the place is looking good :D

Today, as I type, some blinds are being installed in the bedrooms. Finally no more cardboard taped to our bedroom window! We have some other types of blinds yet to come for the big sliding doors.
