Hi All!

Not sure if it's the right place to ask but here goes anyway. I'm trying to plan a hotel room for our upcomming wedding night and given the large choice of luxury hotels in and around the cbd, wondering if anyone would recommend one luxury melb hotel over another to stay at on our wedding night? This is one of the few bits I'm in charge of planning (hehe) so want to make a good choice! We really just want a 5 star experience, in a good spot.

Given I live in Melb, I've barely stayed at any of the hotels here, only at Crown towers once and it was pretty good! We just want one in the CBD somewhere.

I'm sure they'd all be fine but any that are stand outs?

Looked at:
Crown Towers (a bit cliche for my taste)
Grand Hyatt (any good?)
The Windsor(friend suggested this)
Hilton Docklands (new but nnoying location).

Any others I should look at?

Thanks!

The IC has some nice suites at reasonable pricing, including the Turret Suites.

Yes the Westin is nice but what about the Park Hyatt? Lovely location, beautiful large rooms with great bathrooms from memory (not sure what sort of suite we stayed in but I was impressed!).

Level 50 at the Sofitel has some nice rooms.

Great views and I love the restaurant there too. (No 35)

Is it usual in these cases for the hotels to let you phyically inspect the suite prior to booking (or committing to book)?

Would have to be subject to occupancy of course (wandering into the room in the middle of someone else's honeymoon might be taking the inspection process a little too far ), but if they allow this, then maybe get a shortlist of 4 or 5, then hopefully arrange same day inspections of each and make your choice then.

Can recommend both the Sofitel and Park Hyatt as far as something special for a wedding night goes; good location, great views at the former, great (but slightly dated) interiors and spa/pool at the latter.

A Relaxation Suite at the Hilton SW is pretty nice too (great view of the Yarra, really nice bathroom, exec lounge if you need), and the Westin's combination of the heavenly bed and shower is pretty great (though I've not seen their suites).

Crown Towers since the redevelopment feels a wee bit less cliche in decor, though the room layouts are pretty much the same.

It rather depends what you want to pay.
Hilton South Wharf is a great hotel with some great rooms, suites.
Crown Towers has such a variety of rooms, obviously with some great suites.
Agree with others re Sofitel 50th floor, with great views.
Park Hyatt has some great rooms and suites, though I have never liked the service there.
I like the Westin, its a great hotel, but maybe not with the views others offer.
They only have two suites, called Regent suites. Both are good. Currently $975 a night.

Here are some photos of the Courtyard Suites at the IC, the shower is awesome, taken with the phone and not the best quality:

We stayed at The Langham (south bank) for our recent wedding in November. Just like you I spent a long time considering the ideal place to stay and in the end went with them. A few people I've spoken to consider it to be the best hotel in Mebourne (which is obviously debatable as there are a few other very nice places as well), however from what we experienced I'd certainly agree with that statement.

As we were only staying the 1 night and not getting there until late after the reception, what was important to me was a late checkout (they had a good package with 2pm check out included). Other benefits were a great location (not in the casino itself, not in some semi deserted parts of the city on weekend and not close to a busy road) with great river views, and frequent flyer points as a bonus. Also the price was pretty reasonable and compared to others pretty much on par (perhaps slightly cheaper than crown)

We were very impressed with the hotel - the staff we're fantastic, helpful and friendly, the buffet breakfast lots of variety and great, and as it was out wedding night and the room was free we had the fortune of being upgraded to the presidential suite (which was an amazing room). I suppose getting an upgrade isn't necessarily going to happen (good luck I suppose), but even without that, the Langham would be my first choice.

Good luck with your task and for the big day!

The Westin has great beds and beautiful bathrooms, both of which can only enhance the mood of the occasion. Melbourne isn't exactly renowned for its views (unlike Sydney), so I wouldn't choose the hotel on that criterion. I'm not that great a fan of the Sofitel. I was pleasantly surprised by the Langham and it's a good location.
Enjoy the day (and the night).
