Hotel Specials for November

Looking at jetting off to Melbourne for a couple of days in November.

I have seen all the holiday specials that all seem to be for travel up until the end of September. Anecdotally, when do the hotels start to discount November prices (if they do), and are there any events in Melbourne from around the 15th to 25th that would limit availability to decent prices, or make the hotels not discount (offer advance pre-payment specials)
