Hotel recommendation Auckland 2 nights CBD on the cheap?

Friend jumping on a cheap fare to Auckland for a couple of days.
After a CBD CHEAP hotel please if it exists....
First time in Auckland, plans are airport bus to CBD.

What is friends maximum price?

Stayed at the Chifley Suites quite a few years ago and thought we got good value & was a good location for us

Auckland is pricey, Mercure was cheaper whenever I looked and I think Accor have a deal on, not sure if still running. Rooms are basic, tidy. It's one block back from the sea. Not far from nice eating areas, Queen st or ferry if going to Waiheke etc.

They are halfway through doing the rooms up. Not too bad these days.

Mercure would be my pick for reasonably priced but still decent accommodation in CBD. Close to transport hub and an easy (flat) walk.
