Horrible feeling

Hi all.

So I'm in NYC for one night, as I'm heading back to MEL tomorrow.
I just received a text from QF confirming my upgrade to J (first time it's ever happened - I'm Gold)

This is the horrible feeling I get.

AA flight arrives at 1950, and QF 94 departs at 2130.

The tfr is tight enough as is.

Thoughts and ADVICE please. I've never flown long haul J before.

Thank You all.

Get to JFK by 2pm and ask if they can move you forward to QF3112 or QF3108, if you are in economy for that leg it's pretty wide open (business also has available seats though)

Worst case, if you miss QF94, ask them to rebook you on QF96 which departs 2.5 hours later.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm assuming OP has booked both flights on the one PNR, otherwise that's a very tight connection. I would be looking at the AA ticket flexibility and moving it forward if they are separate tickets...

It's also just dawned on me that "tomorrow" in JFK is what we call "today" in SYD. In which case OP, if you are flying on Wed 6 Jul, unfortunately QF96 is not an option. But there are earlier QF coded Y seats available on earlier JFK-LAX flights at the moment.

If booked on one ticket and unable to move the AA leg forward, the backup plan could be QF12 LAX-SYD which currently has J9 showing.

You don’t need much time at LAX. No security or TSA, simply walk from the T4 gate through the airside connector to the TBIT gate. You should be greeted by AA staff if your flight is late with a one world fluro orange folder to help you make your connection.

I have done this and the QF flight started boarding before we got off the AA flight. We made the plane on final call - our bags did not - but that was ok.

Can I checky bags at the AA counter all the way thru to melb?

That would make things much easier. Don't really care if they are delayed by a few days. This upgrade to J is my life's dream!!!

Also what's the on time departure stats for the 5pm JFK-LAX flight?

It's all about the guaranteed upgrade....
And yes booked on one ticket. I would assume there would be an Aussie bound traveller or two on this leg?

Yes, AA will check your bags all the way through. I expect they will also print both BPs.

Yes they will. QF at LAX used to do this weird thing about swapping your boarding pass to a QF issued one, but they’ve stopped doing that now.

If you are booked on an AA code to LAX, you might be able to request a same day flight change. Same-day travel – Plan travel – American Airlines

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been on a QF flight at LAX, on board, waiting for delayed connecting pax to arrive from JFK.

Delayed AA metal pax?

I bought both legs as 1 on QF website during most recent DSC promo
Well those times was usually QF metal, but there is none at the moment, so don’t think it would make a difference. If there’s enough people they’ll wait.
