I have several flights coming up this year with Qantas.

Adl to Syd to Chc return is in Business works out to be (I assume) an amassment of 280 Status Credits. On another flight, Chc to Syd to Adl in Economy gives me 65. That makes (to my count) 345. Adl to Syd to Wlg to Mel to Adl in Economy would get some more too, eh?

Am I correct in this assumption? There are direct flights with Qantas (apart from its Jetstar flights) from Adl to any airport in NZ.

And there is such a thing on Qantas known with them as "Extra Seat personal comfort request", and yes, have to ring them to book.

Has anyone done for eg, Mel or Adl or Per to Syd then to any city in NZ and made it close to the requisite 260 (as a base collection) of SC?

Ta.

Welcome aboard AustraliaPoochie, looks like you've already caught the status bug.

Look here for SC calculations https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/do...v5NHNszBP!186354741!au04uap111qans2!7834!7734

And this site tells you the number of SCs needed to attain and retain status. Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Benefits & Privileges

Finally lots of people here have been known to 'ahem' travel to attain and/or retain status.

We call them MRs or mileage runs.

IMHO not worth doing a status run just to get Silver.

No real benefits at all from NB.

Incorrect - but it all depends on your traveling circumstances.

Free seat selection on QFi, 1.5x points earn (that's around an extra 10k worth of points going to LHR), extra checked allowance and the benefits whilst in the US.

Granted it's not WP, but it can be worth it if you are going to use it.

5 years ago I was being told the same thing... it can be a useful stepping stone.

I see there are also EK codeshares to CHC, which would earn the same SC.

Comfort seats remove the taxes on the second seat, so can be useful in economy, less so in business. You'll need to wait for your flight to credit, then ring up the service centre to get them to credit the extra seat.

Yep, I agree. And depending on where you are, the "priority" check-in can save a ton of time. We where flying on LAN from Lima to Santiago a couple of years ago (when we were Silver) and the check-in was absolutely nuts... probably a good 2 hours. Since we were Silver (or oneworld Ruby) we just when straight down the priority check-in lane to the counter

I also find in the US if you have OW Ruby you get to jump the line for things and get free baggage. And in Malaysia I found a lot of the priority boarding signs included Ruby.

However; the danger becomes status chasing, once you get Silver you only want to climb the benefits table to Gold ... then you see pax with Platinum perks and boom, before you know it the sickness has set in.

No longer content with a direct home-port to HKG as an example, you start devising ways to fly via another local city and then wonder if you can't somehow stop along the way international as it helps reset the SC meter. All for the same coin or just a few Rubles more in taxes. Heck all of a sudden you don't mind leaving a bit earlier on those long haul trips. But then at some point you then wonder wonder why ... but quickly realise it is ok as you order another glass of Champagne in the SYD / MEL Flounge then do the same in HKG.

But only if a QF flight number on the EK operated aircraft. EK flight number earns points but not SC's

Yes, that's what I meant. Had a quick look on Qantas.com and saw the QF-coded EK flight and a 777 looked nicer than a 737 :p
