Whilst not really a Hilton question that's our starting point.

A friend of mine is getting off a ship in Honolulu next May and is in the process of selecting some accommodation in Honolulu for a few days after they arrive.

One of the options is the Double Tree by Hilton Alana-Waikiki Beach. The only places we have stayed is the Hilton Hawaiian Village which we found to be pretty good but BIG and a nameless Sheraton.

Can anyone offer suggestions re the DT or anywhere else?

Sheraton Waikiki has recently been doing refurbishment so it is a good place to stay, as it is very convenient to all the shops. I stayed there in April when they began refurbishment.

We too have stayed Sheraton Waikiki but seriously would never stay there again - their Exec Lounge is way below par and general service level pretty ordinary IMHO. Clearly others will hold diff views

I agree, I've been here a number of times. Sheraton, Hilton , Holiday inn (when it existed) are all not what we would expect as good quality hotels, however they don't need to offer much as they have a captive market. Forget our so called "loyalty to our hotel chain" and look seriously into other better hotels and forget our quest for points

We've had two stays at the Embassy Suites Waikiki Beach Walk. Loved the location, enjoyed the spacious suites (with a separate bedroom). Very busy at the breakfast buffet, but plenty of other options nearby if that's not included in the rate. Rooms had a minibar fridge (empty), so can also self-cater for basic brekky. Plenty of ABC stores to help with that.

I was only a Gold and got upgraded to Oceanfront view room. Fairly happy with that. The kids loved the pools and waterslide.
