Please note that it's only at DA stage, however Tactical Group today lodged a DA to build a 226 room Holiday Inn Express at 168-184 Wharf St, Spring Hill (Brisbane).

While it's disappointing it's not an InterContinental, Hotel Indigo or Crowne Plaza it's pleasing to see IHG may have a presence again in Brisbane within the next few years!

That is very good news.

Perhaps some PointsBreaks as well? ;)

PointsBreaks would be good. We often like going to Brisbane for a few days just to do some of the nice BNE options (GOMA, different restaurants, Southbank etc) but paying to stay in a city only 1hr drive up the road regularly puts us off (Hilton was good when they had sub $100/nite deals) so 5k points would be a winner for us!

That'll do me but it will be more than a few years I'm sure. Unfortunately the wheels of council move very slowly. If I remember correctly it took me about 18 months to get my DA through council when I did a development a couple of years ago after they gave me numerous hoops to go through then when I had got through all that they changed the rules etc etc and had to leap through them all again. There is a couple of 2 story buildings on site ATM if IIRC so they would need to come down etc. It would be nice but I would say >4 years

Brisbane to Welcome First Holiday Inn Express

Sydney, Australia, 16 July 2014: InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and international investment group, Pro-Invest have signed a franchise agreement for a 226-room Holiday Inn Express hotel in Brisbane’s Spring Hill. The hotel will be the first Holiday Inn Express property in the city and marks the company's return to Brisbane.

The new Holiday Inn Express hotel will be located near the "Golden Triangle" of Brisbane’s CBD, with easy access to the city’s business, retail, entertainment and leisure hubs. Surrounded by a number of restaurants and bars, the high-rise Brisbane hotel will have two meeting rooms, on-site parking spaces and a generous breakfast area, called The Great Room, where guests can enjoy their free breakfast before heading out for the day's activities.

Continues...

Went past the development site this week and the existing buildings are almost completely gone, so hopefully us brisbanites may have a new hotel in 12 - 18 months

Now if they get a presence in Cairns and/or Darwin as well I will be very happy. It would be nice if IHG had somewhere on their site where you could see where the approved developments in Australia are going to take place but I can's see anything.
