Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts Hotel Reservations | 72-Hour Summer Sale

Yet another 72 hour sale starting (publicly) on the 18th at Midday, but a little bit earlier for others.

Covers most Holiday Inn's in Australia and New Zealand, With exemptions for Rooty Hill and Townsville (IIRC).

Got a postcard yesterday for it with the dates, but can't recall them now. Believe it's early April through to June.

Got the same card; can't believe that Rooty Hill is not included but usually you can book a room here for not much more. I paid $90 for a prepaid night here 18 months ago to kick off the quadruple point promo on your 2nd stay onwards

I did note that a lot of overseas tour companies use this hotel. Can you imagine being told that your tour hotel in Sydney is Holiday Inn, Rooty Hill, and your shock at discovering where it is in relation to the Opera House / Bridge which most tourists want to be as close to as possible?
On the plus side, you are pretty close to the Blue Mountains:mrgreen:

Another plus. - No trip to Australia would be complete without a visit to the Rooty Hill RSL.:mrgreen:

Not much different to Contiki, Trafalgar, Cosmos etc tours where in some cities you are 1-2 hours from the centre of town and nowhere near supermarkets or restaurants.

It's really not such a great deal.

Just booked the Holiday Inn at LAX for USD 49 through Priceline.

Also booked the Greentree at SEA for USD 44 via Priceline.

Australia is being ripped-off for hotel accommodation.

I think the issue is we don't have a priceline - or a priceline type company.

As well, Australia isn't as badly in trouble as the U.S, and our tourism hasn't slumped as much -- yet.

What can I say, Mal?

But watch this space (unfortunately).....

From the Macquarie Infrastructure Group (invests in toll roads and motorways around the world) Interim Report released today
Government agency statistics released by the US
Department of Transport estimate that the coughulative
travel on all roads in the US in 2008 decreased by 3.7%
(102.1 billion vehicle miles) as compared to 2007.
Got to bet a lot of those were people that would have stayed in hotels and motels. Continental Europe is not much better. I wonder if there are corresponding Australian stats.

Richard.

Yes, there would be of course, but the only link I can find at short notice is this article today in The Age, for Metro Melb only: Hard times just the ticket for public transport | theage.com.au

From the report : "...
The survey, taken last month, also found that 92 per cent wanted the Government to spend more on public transport.
Twenty per cent of Melburnians had reduced car use in the last six months. This was also reflected in VicRoads' recent Traffic Monitor report.
It showed zero growth in road travel in metropolitan Melbourne from the previous year."

and this one from the Vic Roads site which covers the 'latest' 06/07 all Victoria report: Media Release - Traffic Monitor 2006-07 Released : VicRoads

Seems it takes them 12 MONTHS to release each report! No wonder our infrastructure is struggling to cope in Victoria!!
