The port of Hobart will have 63 cruise ship visits this season.

The news that the port will expand to be able to host three 'superliners' at once I don't think is great. I've been to small cities which have had multiple cruisers in port and its a poor experience for the visitors and for the locals.

HOBART will soon be able to host three of the world’s biggest cruise ships at any one time.

Tasports has revealed it is clearing the way for two superliners like the Ovation of the Seas — which can cater for 6500 passengers and crew — to tie up at one time at Macquarie Point.

And planning is under way for a suitable spot for a third ship to lie at anchor if there were already two in port.

Currently only smaller cruise ships can dock when the superliner is in port
