HKG W and SQ J or QF F

once a month the rooftops transfer into a private pool party - where guests actually have complimentary entry

Now this I like the sound of (love a good rooftop pool party)! Is there a calendar, and do they run all year around? (edit: seems only in summer. Makes sense.)

Am staying there on a Saturday in January (edit: luckily after it re-opens), can't wait to check out the pool. :)

Cheers,

Wow. HKG W is amazing.

I ended up with an upgrade to a corner room with a view up towards the new bridge and the South China Sea. I really liked this view though others would maybe see it as a little to industrial.

Also, the HKG W is the only hotel (and this includes Vegas) where I have been propositioned in the main lobby by a hooker. It is 10 steps from the front door lifts to the rooms lifts and I was approached by a lady in thigh high black boots and halter top. Asked if I wanted a 'massage' followed by a stoke of my lower arm. Was pretty amazed that the hotel was cool with this but who knows what arrangement she had.

QF F on the 747 is getting tied but everybody knows this. Also, when the cabin is full it really does become a little cramped.

Staying at a good W (HKG or Seoul) is fantastic. Staying at a bad W (Chicago Lake Shore) is a total waste of money. W hotels must nail it or they are simply expensive try hard Sheraton's.

Did you ask her how many QFF points / $1 spent she allocates if any at all

Might have made the difference between a no & a yes?

If you think Lake Shore's bad, I recommend you stay away from the New York ones!

I've stayed at a few W's (Barcelona, Lake Shore, Boston, Seattle, NYC Lexington, NYC Union Square, Mexico City, South Beach and Dallas) and the only ones I've ever been disappointed by were the NYC ones. Tired, old, dolled-up hotels trying to make something hip out of something that isn't. Sure there are some OK elements (Underbar can be fun) but overall, I'd rather stay elsewhere (Le Parker Meridien, for example).

The standouts for me are Barcelona (I was the second or third person to check-in, ever :D), Miami Beach, Mexico City and Dallas (Dallas because of the rooftop bar and the upgrades, not because of the location!) Boston is pretty nice too, though in a quiet/boring area.

Very nearly booked the W Maldives too, but just couldn't justify an extra $2k for 6 nights over the place we did end up booking, which by all accounts looks incredible, with much bigger villas/bungalows. :)
