They say you'd have to be bonkers not to go via Honkers, so that's what we are doing.

I was looking for some award seats for a family trip to Europe for next January, and ended up finding some Y+ seats on Cathay out of HKG.

This means we will need to make a positioning flight to HKG a day or two beforehand, so I thought it would be good to make a stopover out of it.

Our onward flight leaves HKG on 1 Jan, so I was thinking of arriving into HKG on a daytime flight on the 30th Dec, and spending two nights in HKG.

Two main questions I need help with:

1. Hotel Accomodation for 2 adults and 2 kids in one room. I've done a fait bit of searching and this seems to be a rarity in HK. Most places seem to max out at 2A + 1 Kid. Any tips here? One option I've found is the Cordis in Mongkok? Is that any good as a hotel and area to stay?

Other option that seems to handle 2+2 is the Novotel Century.

2. We would have the full day of the 31/12 to explore. Any suggestions on activities? Kids are under 10 so we wouldn't be up for a wild NYE, mainly daytime activities and early evening.

Other than transits, I haven't been to HK since the poms pulled out! So would appreciate any tips from our HKG experts.

Cordis is a great hotel but rooms are on the small side so 2+2 really ambitious. Its is near to a subway stop too and shopping centre. Most HK rooms are small. Whilst it's extra money adjoining rooms may be better option

When the kids were younger (between 4 and 9), we used to use the in-town checkin on the morning of the last day and take them to Disneyland. I know - not very cultural. As an alternative you can take the Ngong Ping 360 to see the Big Buddha. I guess it depends on the timing of your flight out.

As for accommodation - we had a place at Mong Kok that was perfect for 2+2 families ... so of course they shut it down!

And I have a question :- is there any advantage in pre-purchasing the Airport Express Travel Pass?
