Is anyone aware if an Amex Platinum card issued in Australia would cover the Excess on a Hertz hire car. The car was hired and paid on the Plat card.

Which cards are actually good for covering the Excess?

When using credit card insurance to cover the excess you usually have to reduce the excess with the hire company to as low as possible, so if that means paying an extra $20 per day to reduce the excess from $1500 to $100, then you must do this otherwise they would not pay out.

Thanks

Thanks Johnsmith. It doesn't look like the Platinum cards do cover the excess in any case. During my search I did find that the ANZ Gold card did but then they said the the ANZ FF Gold didn't so if any forum readers rely on their ANZ Gold card, make sure you have the right ANZ Gold card.

The exact wording is as follows:

Please note that this only applies to ANZ Gold cardholders and does not apply to ANZ Frequent Flyer Visa Gold or ANZ Rewards Visa Gold.

Yearly frequent flyer insurance policys often cover this in the policy, if you do more than 20 rentals a year the saving pays for the insurance alone!

Either way, congratulations to everyone who has contributed to making this quite possibly one of the most useful, well structured (and civilised!) forums on the Internet!
