I am booking an award stay at Hilton Sydney and can choose from king deluxe / deluxe plus / exec at 69k/ 76 k / 83k respectively.

I dont stay here often, but from experience and trawling the "... Treat you as an elite" thread, booking king deluxe or deluxe + will get me an upgrade to King Exec as diamond. If I book the king exec, should I expect an upgrade to relaxation room or junior suite, or will I just get what I "pay" for?

Thanks for any advice from those with experience of this property.

I personally think it's entirely in the lap of the Gods! Even if you book a King Exec, there is no guarantee you get a suite. Having said that, a suite is possible from the stock standard base room......but given recent form, unlikely.

A King deluxe + is definitely not worth 7000 points over a King deluxe and the only reason an exec may be worth the additional 14000 points over a King deluxe (for a diamond) is possibly a slightly better shot at a suite.

Enjoy!

This is a hotel that is now near capacity and it's exceedingly hard to get a suite (I used to get them routinely, now they are rare).

I would not expect a big upgrade, but if it comes, that is fantastic. The difference between the Standard, Plus and Executive rooms is minimal and it's not really worth it. Sometimes the best way to get the premium rooms is to use the NOR1 upgrade.

Why do people keep staying here? It is obvious the staff don't care, there is cost cutting going on and the rooms are miserable (with the archer's windows).
I've only stayed once (as a gold IIRC), and will never go back.

I would not waste 70-80k points on an average hotel like Hilton Sydney.

I was wondering if I was missing something, having also done one stay and thought it poor in value.

Also agree - I feel this hotel has got progressively worse over the previous couple of years, most recent stay last week was very disappointing and staff aren't interested in feedback........ Only things in its favor are the location, and the gym/pool area.

Where else do others recommend at them moment?

Seems the same as Hilton Surfers a Paradise. Got an upgrade from the most basic room to a King Executive, but still the tiniest room on the entire floor. The hotel is also massively understaffed, long lines at check in, pool area not clean, mattresses filthy, empty drink glasses left everywhere and no one around to clean them - even in the sauna. Lounge staff non-existent and not resupplying the food offering or cleaning after previous guests. Most expensive Hilton I've ever stayed in and definitely most underwhelming. Sydney Hilton seems leaps and bounds over this one.

Thanks all for the info. I booked the cheapest award and chose nor1 options for relaxation room and junior suite. It's been a while since I stayed, so is disappointing to hear the negative reports. Will see how we go.

For information, those 3 room types (king deluxe / deluxe plus / exec) are pretty much the same from my experience. The only difference is that they may be on lower/higher floor levels, but I've found that to be hit and miss. If "upgraded" to an exec room the difference may be a higher floor.

I request the paid upgrade to a better room (above exec) now.

I've had an upgrade to an exec room for the last 3 stays.. Booked a Deluxe+ every time.
The rooms are on the small side and the service isn't OVERWHELMING, but I don't think there is anything wrong with the hotel... In my experiences it is one of my preferred Hiltons.
I was also here on the day of the Sydney Siege/Lindt Hostage saga and the way that staff dealt with the situation made all the difference.
Big + from me.

When other hotels in the area offer bigger rooms, better service and suite upgrades for top tier members at similar and sometimes cheaper rates, it means there is something wrong with this hotel.

I stayed last weekend as a Diamond and managed to get downgraded from level 39 exec room on checkin to level 37 exec room as it was not ready yet.It wasnt till I walked away I realised 39 and up get the small bottle of wine and so called skyline views. It may not sound like mutch but they charge an extra $70 ontop of the deluxe room I booked and any upgrade is better than none when it comes to Sydney even if it is only the name of the room.
Also as far as them mentioning we have upgraded you to an Exec room I have yet to work out what an Exec room is as other than the floor number they all seem the same.As a Diamond I get access anyway so unless the room is different I dont see how it is an upgrade.Unlike my first stay at HSW last month I was upgraded to the Relaxation Suite with a 4pm checkout as well(never been past 2pm).

Sounds like I'm the only Diamond being treated better in HSYD than HSW - never been anywhere near to a relaxation room or better yet at HSW yet I received King Suite upgrade even when I was Gold in HSYD last year.

You can try, but I've had no luck the past two years at Sydney and Noumea.
