So as part of our honeymoon I have been looking at standard award availability for rooms across a number of cities including London, Paris, Edinburgh, Helsinki across a number of dates later in the year

I am Hilton Honors Gold and have had about a 50% success rate in finding the hotels we want at the dates we want and booked them in October/November 2019.

I have been logging on about once a week since then to check standard award availability and no luck for the remaining 50% including checking today.

I then did some other planning today that required me to use my VPN, logged in to San Francisco as my location.

I then thought maybe I should check the award availability again with the VPN on, even though I had just checked and what we wanted wasn't available.

Well, guess what, full standard award availability for all the remaining 50% hotels on the dates we wanted.

So I double-checked. Turned VPN off, using a different browser and no availability, turned VPN on and bingo full award availability.

So I, of course, went ahead and booked

Is this a known issue/trick?

Would love to hear others' experiences.

Thanks, motef

Fascinating discovery!

I’m in Japan at the moment and have been looking to see if I can book a Hilton with points in Tokyo. All searches show nothing.

But after reading your post I turned on my VPN and set to California. Low and behold! I searched again and now points availability is showing.

That is very interesting and a great data point to add.

Has anybody else experienced this?

Would be great to get some more examples to prove/disprove.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Wow. What an absolute disgrace that Australian based Hilton Honours members are disadvantaged and penalised for reward inventory availabilty in this way. I wonder if it works the other way around, for people searching for availability overseas for reward nights at the sparse number of Hiltons in Australia.

I’m about to make some bookings , so good info to have thanks. What’s an inexpensive VPN to use ?
