Went to book NOV 3 at the Hilton AKL today and needed a defibrillator to to get my heart going again after the price popped up...! Anyone have any ideas why it is so expensive that night?

When I have done test bookings at the Hilton AKL I have always found it horrendously expensive :(

It's expensive most nights, even with pricing in Kiwi Pesos.

I have only stayed there using 1) Hilton Premium Club $100 stays voucher or 2) Awards

Nice place though ...

I like the idea of staying somewhere I have status. Hilton is now choice #1 followed by HI group maybe look for a HI Group hotel :(
Has anyone stayed in Novotel near airport? If so, what's it like?
Stayed there three times, twice over the last 3 weeks. I dined there on one of them and the food was quite good.

Other than that, it does the job and is very convenient to the airport.

How about the Rydges

Can get you a 20% off member for a stay cert for the Hilton if interested.

Yeah, I forget the 20% Hilton Prem. Club "member for a stay". That's off room rate and all hotel room booked F&B. I have a couple of those.

The last time I stayed at the Hilton Auckland 3 years ago I used the HPC AUD99 voucher and paid NZD109 for the night.

From memory the room rates were NZD270+ and early on there was no availability to use the HPC voucher either.

Ditto. Much the same when I stayed there.

Taupo on the other hand.. was much more reasonable:!:

Have stayed at the Hilton AKL twice last year and always at really reasonable rates but that was always over the weekend and I've noticed that rates fluctuate immensely at that property... Guess they can afford it as the hotel is great and in a stunning location... If it's not available at a reasonable price, I usually stay at the Crown Plaza. Not remotely as luxurious but good views from almost all rooms as they are all on high floors and almost always fairly cheap for what you get.

I just booked a few nights here for March. Fortunately they had a great points plus pay deal, and I used the 30% points back offer, making it even better. And, if the rumours about Diamond benefits being enhanced in a non-QF way, I could see myself in a suite for a few nights too ;)

I tried to book for 16th Mar and was told the joint will be full

Well Hilton looks out of the question - has anyone stayed at DeBretts? I stayed there years ago and it was a typical Pub accommodation stay - lookin at their website Hotel DeBrett - Boutique Luxury Hotel Accommodation, Auckland City, New Zealand | Five 5 Star Hotel Suites | Best No1 Top Hotel it looks OK - but photos can lie (!)

Did you end up staying at DeBretts?

We're booked for later this month - the reviews are extremely complimentary.

Loved the Westin:( but not willing to stay there now.
