Hill Forts of Rajasthan

Those two things should not be mutually exclusive :) . 'The Last Mughal' by William Dalrymple is excellent.
Having studied India at uni (as part of a year-long double unit on the British Empire), and having read some fairly dry tomes, my favourite book on India is Much sounding of Bugles, about the siege of Chitral by John Harris. It brings a good deal of understated humour to the tale of a small British contingent under siege in 1895.

I must say that there was a lot of forts in this TR, and many floating, and all very interesting!
