Hi everyone!

Just started with the whole FIFO thing in WA. Using Qantas to fly back and forth from Perth-Newman, so thinking it was a good time to clock up some Frequent Flyer points, although from what I hear, nothing compared to what some of the rest of the lads are getting flying from East Coast to here and back again every four weeks :)

Any news on how to increase my "status" points???

Welcome aboard, you've come to the right place to mine some information. Oh and remember to wear your high vis gear in the Qantas Club.

Welcome, I just left HD4 a month ago actually ,:)

Sent from my GT-I9100 using AustFreqFly

Just keep reading the Forum and you will find something that will smash your points along and bring some extra status as well.

Who were u working with Vitagen?

Any tips on improving the Status Credits? I know we only get 1,000 points each way from Perth-Newman?

Was with KBR.
FF points are different from status credits. FF points give you redemption value, whilst Satus Credits move you up fromBronze to Platinum.

This forum has a wealth of into so I encourage you to read!

When you get to Platinum (colloquially known as "WP" around these parts) you'll receive 1268 points each way. I've been out to Orebody 24 and the PSU330 project at West Angeles a fair bit recently so I know the numbers well!! :) Are Rio Tinto booking your travel?

Status credits can only be boosted by flying. So next time you fly to SYD try going PER-BNE-SYD (will cost more but you earn more SC's). There's a saying in here of "Why go direct when you can connect?" that relates to maximising SC earn.

Frequent Flyer points can be boosted by Credit Cards, hire cars, using optus, shopping at Woolworths etc.

You will not get WP on a 4/1 roster without boosting your travel along the way.

At least all Rio flights are full Y class!

thanks for all the advice guys....unfortunately I reside in Perth, so theres no way i can see that I can bypass to somewhere else in either the Perth to Newman or returning from Newman to Perth :(

So you need to boost your FF point earn and fly a few JASA's in your time off.

As a non-miner in PER please don't .

Be aware that travel class also greatly influences SC earn - eg. Red-e deals earn only half the SCs of other whY flights. I think that was the nub of 11sjw's query about Rio booking your flights - presumably it's good because they don't use Red-e deals, or bad because they do.

They don't, everything is full Y. And even if you don't work directly for Rio Tinto but for a subcontractor then 99% of all flights are still booked directly through Amex Travel on behalf of Rio and billed back to the contractor!

Yep, helped me greatly in achieving and now retaining WP. Hi Viz and all. :D

If you do go to the QC wearing your high vis, be sure to sit as close as possible to some men in suits, then strike up a conversation about how good mining is, they are always eager to have a chat about how good the industry is.

A guy in a suit won't be me :p.

G'day brother,

I'm a train driver for Rio at Yandi. We fly with Virgin out to Yandi. I'm on a 2/1 roster so I've managed to become Platinum and also qualify my wife as Platinum with some flights on my time off.
As previously suggested you may have to do a bit of flying in your time off. I used to work in Tom Price flying into Para with QF, once you qualify at a certain level it requires less status credits the next year to requalify. My suggestion would be to smash out some extra flights on your time off to get to Gold so you can use the QF club then next year you may be ale to retain that level with just your work flights.
I also once took a week of annual leave as my anniversary for QF was due and I was 20 status credits short of qualify for Gold.
Sometimes you need to get a little creative....

PB
