They say to wait 20 business days. After about 25 business days I called up and they had to chase up Hilton manually. From there it was about another week. Don't leave it till the last minute!

This sounds very familiar to me, but from years ago. What actually happened to me was that HH opened a separate HH account for the status upgrade (despite me nominating my account) but failed to notify me of the new account so there it sat. When I rang to enquire, I was told there was no such program that they knew of but after much discussion (and asking numerous other HH staff), they finally decided there was an offer and upgraded me (which was the wrong offer and 6 months later I was bumped despite me staying the required 4 stays in that 6 month period). Rang back again to say I was due another 6 months and was told again there was no such offer but after much debate, was granted my further 6 months (I had at that point received my card for the new account so I then had both a diamond account and a gold account).Bumping because I opted in 14th November and I haven't received anything from Hilton and nothing appears on my Hilton account showing change in status.
Phoned Virgin. Zero help other than phone 1800 446 667 and try to get Hilton to sort it out.
Phoned Hilton on above number, the person I spoke to said she is unaware of any such offer of status upgrade offer and cant help me.
Phoned again, 2nd person said she knows nothing about any agreement with VA but would log a query with membership services and someone might contact me in approx. 10 days to respond.
I put it in on 2 Jan this year, so will let everyone know when/if its processed.
As did I, so there'll two data points. My gold upgrade last year took about two months so I'm not holding my breath.
I cannot for the life of me understand how a partnership can be this disfunctional.
I think one can safety assume that the "process" is far from automated and really depends on Lady Luck smiling on the day of processing as to what you receive and when you receive it.
Just an update. Submitted 2 Jan. Rang Virgin on 2/2 as I had no response, they escalated, came through on the 5/2. No email though from Virgin and Hilton - just saw it when I went to make a hotel booking.

Just use a CC as they need that anyway.That's quite a good point – I guess it's just nice to hand over to help staff check you in.
