just made Hilton Honors diamond.

do diamonds get anything extra over gold in usa? Asia? Aus?

So far have got free conti breakfast and exec lounge access when the property has a lounge as a gold vip in usa.

Also got a couple of room upgrades to exec floor rooms, corner room, etc

Thanks

The most valuable thing is 50% bonus points, whereas Gold only get 25%. Also in some major hotels there are Diamond VIP desks for check-in, meaning an extra level of service.

You will notice that you will always get free breakfast, and generally an upgrade as well. I always get lounge access, and executive level if they are available in the property.

If you have a problem they will generally bend over backwards. I've had two issues that warranted a compaint in the last year, one in San Francisco, and was given 80,000 points compensation, and another at the Waldorf Astoria, where we were upgraded to a HUGE suite as compensation. I don't think I would get these as Gold or other.

The one exception seems to be in the UK, where Hiltons are not so good add recognising status.

I got upgraded to a Towers room at the Waldorf Astoria in NY as Gold. However, our neighbour were fighting at 11pm, 12am and 4am. Called security 3 times and assured me they would deal with it.

Apparently it was the room directly below us and the sound was echoing up the fireplace.

Chucksta-buy a lottery ticket.Being upgraded to the Towers as a gold at the Waldorf is a real win.
5 years as a diamond and only 1 suite upgrade and that in Brisbane where we have stayed a night several times.Have missed out on exec level and lounge access-latest dubai creek. Not 1 promotion.
I might not be their greatest stayer but at 31 stays,74 nights and 165000 base points in the last 12 months I do get upset when absolutely no recognition such as Hilton KL a week ago.

You mean Hilton Hotels don't always recognise GOLD or DIAMOND status outside USA? That's cough....!

In the USA, it seems that when you are GOLD, it is a given to get free continental breakfast (or lounge access if they have an exec lounge)

I suspect the Waldorf Astoria was very full, lots of tour groups in the lobby. I think I saw a Cunard rep walking around.

My experience so far as a GOLD:

- Hilton Times Sq (Free conti bf)
- Hilton Boston Backbay (Free conti bf in diamond lounge)
- Capital Hilton Washington DC (Exec lounge access)
- Waldorf Astoria NY (Upgrade to Towers room and free conti bf in Oscars)
- Conrad Miami (Upgrade to condominium room and free conti bf)
- Doubletree Dallas (Free conti bf)
- Hilton LAX (Upgrade to exec floor corner room with awesome view of LAX runways and lounge access)
- Doubletree San Diego (Upgrade to exec floor and lounge access)

It's annoying that some properties like Hilton Times Sq don't include gratuity with the breakfast voucher. Other places like Conrad Miami, and the doubletrees I have stayed at do.

Can any GOLD/DIAMOND VIPs share their experience with Hilton Sydney, Hilton Adelaide, Hilton Cairns, Hilton Brisbane, Hilton Tokyo, Hilton Singapore, Conrad Singapore? (in terms of lounge access and upgrades)

Why doesn't Hilton KL recognise Gold/Diamond status??

So is my new HH Diamond card going to be a bit of a lame duck in my wallet? ie Not much point outside the USA?

thanks

Yes, I've had this happen quite a few times, almost always get a suite at the Hilton an Tullamarine.
As a HH Gold I get a suite upgrade at Tullamarine on most stays.

At Hilton on the Park in Melbourne the treatment is totally eratic. There is a FT thread about Hilton on the Park.

The problem is that status recognition is totally erratic anyway.Previously upgraded at KL.This time zip.
Hilton Singapore-Stayed 1 week ago.Paid for exec floor and as no upgrade possible got an extra 50% bonus points and late checkout until 4pm-offered before I asked.
Hilton Sydney april 08-upgrade exec floor.
Hilton on the Park melbourne april 08-upgrade exec floor.
Hilton Adelaide 2006-no upgrade,no lounge access,full breakfast.
Hilton Brisbane,various dates-always exec floor,after 5th visit-suite.
Hilton Tokyo sept. 2007-upgrade exec floor
Conrad singapore-no upgrade but lounge access.
No stays in Cairns.
All these as diamond.
