Hertz Australia taking on Porsche!

Wow. Interesting news, thanks for sharing.

/IMO/

Porsche are crazy selling cars to Hertz to be used as rentals.

Bye bye exclusivity of owning a Porsche.

Can I use spider chains at mt Hotham???

Keeping in mind the average person wouldn't even know that you can rent an X3 or X5 from Hertz, only those that travel or rent vehicles often

Except that it comes up every time you search, and I'd have thought (I doubt any actual data exists on this) that many people in the market for an X3 or X5 have rented a car, oh, once or twice before.....

It's not your perception therefore it's incorrect?

Fact is if BMW didn't want their vehicles associated with rental vehicles they wouldn't sell to a rental fleet nor allow Hertz to promote the BMW fleet

Pretty simple facts really

So Hertz.com.au now lists 2 new vehicle classes :)

Midsize, Sports Car, Automatic, Petrol Air ISAV
Midsize Elite, Convertible, Automatic, Petro JTAV

As nice as the Porsche will be in the fleet, I wish Hertz luck in getting the vehicle in/out of the MEL downtown location, the drive is steep and I suspect the front end of the vehicle may scratch ;)

Oh and instead of worrying about more prestige vehicles how about updating the rest of the fleet to try to keep up with Europcar and everyone else :)

Not to worry some of my rentals are moving to Europcar, as their prices have been cheaper than Hertz lately and I am far more impressed with their vehicle selection (newer vehicles)

Whilst that's true (from a corporate viewpoint that's clearly their decision if they wish to sell to a fleet), my point was to mrsdoc (ie. a consumer) it's a poor association and made her less inclined to choose the X5. One consumer's decision.

You may also find a dealership (not head office) has sold the cars so BMW head office may have not had an influence. Who knows (except BMW and Hertz presumably).

Which leads me back to my original comment that IMO it's a poor choice by Porsche to sell to a rental fleet.

And again, YMMV.

LOL - Yes Hertz just walked to the local dealership and asked for a few cars, funnily enough the cars have come from all different dealerships and I guarantee BMW signed off on the Hertz advertising of the BMW fleet

That aside, even the new X5 is poor when compared to the MB GL and the Q7 is rubbish

Cayman's are very nice indeed especially if its an S model and in flaming red colour - luckily my friend has one and it sure was pretty cool :D That said I would never want to rent from Hertz anymore, even if loaned the car for free ... those Hertz punks at Sydney Downtown said I damaged one of their cars upon return and charged my credit card some of the excess. The manager there even promised to notify me once an outcome was made .... surprise surprise, no email, no call, no nothing. Great service Sydney Downtown. Now I am still waiting a reply from Hertz Corporate and Presidents Circle for more information about the damage query - it appears they have decided to not respond. Hertz punks.

Curious - Did they charge you "on the spot" when they noticed the damage, or was it a surprise on your credit card statement ?

Looks like they are doing just that. I got a brand new Sportivo ZR6 in BNE yesterday.
Love the new car smell :)

I asked about the Porsche buy there is no arrival date or pricing yet.

The Manager there said he wouldn't close/finalise my reservation yet, and take a hold on my card. Review the damage. He said he would contact me (four days he said) of the outcome of their review. No contact whatsoever from him. Just one day the 'hold' becomes an actual charge on my card.

Nice

I assume that's the new Premium Full Size vehicle then ?

I'd prefer more VW Passat's

Okay some initial details have been released regarding our new Porsche adrenaline range. Naturally things may change so for this rare second, don't take all what this good looking rental guy has to say as Gospel.

Two models will be released - Cayman 2.7L & Boxter 2.7L (Boxter Conv judging by the one in the wash this afternoon)

Don't even think about asking for an upgrade, staff are unable to do that. A new booking will be created if the car is in location.

$100 Bond required + rental costs.
$8,250 excess +(standard airport fee..etc)
AER can drop that cheeky excess to $2,500 for $66/day
150km/day then $1/km after.
VIP treatment on pickup and delivery. Airport management or the Gold Concierge will meet &greet and show you the car and inspect the exterior. On return there will be a special Porsche bay. Hotel/inner-city pickup can be arranged. Yet don't even think about dropping back to Canberra/Gold Coast.

Cayman Pricing:
Weekdays (1-2days): $409/day Weekend* (Friday pickup - Monday return): $322/day
" " (3+days): $388/day

Boxter Pricing:
Weekdays (1-2days): $450/day Weekend* (Friday pickup - Monday return): $356/day
" " (3+days): $428/day

* - The guide reads that the weekend is a 3day package and if dropped earlier your charged the entire 3day hire. I will confirm tomorrow morning as the wording was rather vague.

Feel free to ask further questions and I'll try and gain further answers. Expect don't ask how it drives. I'm far too young and reckless to touch it according to Head Office. Not sure when they will be totally released, yet expect to see them at major airports in July.

Shame it's a Toyota! No interest in driving them when I can drive a Commodore SV6 or Falcon XR6 from Avis!

Thanks for sharing. Excess and km are what I expected. Price is a little higher than I expected - was expecting about $250-300 a day. Whilst I acknowledge there's a higher risk with a Porsche, a Cayman costs the same as a Merc E250 convertible (~$120k on road), which Europcar have for less than $200 a day. Of course, the Porsche will be a much better car to drive!

This particular ZR6 model drives very well and it comes with built in GPS and leather seats. Personally I much prefer it over the SV6 or XR6.

You would be one of the few! Still have numerous 5Stars and PCs getting upset about not being given a XR6

Really? Having had different versions of the commodore and falcon as fleet vehicles for most of my working years I'd rather a Euro or Japanese vehicle any day!

I love the Passat wagon!

Have you driven the VF Commodore SV6?

Thanks very much for this - I guess a Boxster weekend with AER works out to be $1,266 then. I assume CDPs etc won't apply for the cars at first either, at least initially?

Also, hoping against hope...I bet these are auto/PDK aren't they? No manuals hidden in there?

Sorry, another question if you don't mind - do you have any details on how well loaded the Porsches are, with adaptive dampers, satnav etc?
