A Current Affair has already emailed me asking to keep them updated (lol).

I wonder what ACA's angle would be on this one.

Maybe a message to the QFF & VFF reps here might also help.

I'd be keen to join team VA.

I doubt you'll make it - nothing against you but in my experience (& I know it's contentious) VA struggle with on time performance and they'll seem to be worse when you want to get somewhere in a hurry. On a positive note what about starting in Perth and using the overnight flight into Sydney to get an early start on bouncing around the east coast?

this seems a frivolous waste time and money with no expected return except some self mojo building. A simple question - why the heck would you bother?

This is AFF! Surely mojo building is all the excuse you need!

They're not going to put a 30 minute connection on the same ticket.

You're hardly stretching the time boundaries with the routing. Not sure why you would need plenty of coffee.

For the love of flying! It's also a scenic spot to share a drink amongst mates, both FL380 and some lounges

FWIW I did something similar 6-7 years ago flying SYD-ADL-ASP-AYQ-PER-BME-DRW-GOV-CNS-BNE-SYD on various QF awards in ~72 hours. I could not quite fit in MEL but still an exciting little trip.

Yet you refuse to join us on JQ35. Not a team player!! :p

I have offered to be part of the experience but not to fly JQ. All that is required is someone to purchase me a cheap JQ airfare and a good enough reason to come back through customs/immigration. ;) Although I can take care of the coming back through.

This would be one heck of a story to tell people. I definitely would love to be a part of a QF run, but it would depend upon total cost.

Personally I'd go with build self mojo... That seems like a pretty good reason to me...
I'd personally love to go on such a trip, and would not consider it a waste of time or money ( / points) in the slightest.

Hi All,

Just a quick update; We are not going to attempt to make it a "Top Gear" style race. The plan (if possible) is for me and my friend Dan to arrive at MEL airport at an agreed time, I fly only VA, he flys only QF, and whoever gets to all airports and back first wins (the person & the airline).

I have noticed some of you are interested in the QF part though, so I will happily share the details with the thread once they get more solid.

Hang on, not a "top gear" style race? Wouldn't one using one method and the other using the other method count as a "top gear" style race?
The other choice (which would involve a great deal of trust, but would be a load of fun) is do it as a "race around the world" style race. Get a friend to do some bookings of flights and not tell you what your next flight is until you get to each airport along the route. A quick SMS sent to you mid flight (so you can't access it until arriving, but so your friend does not need to be available at specific times) is your only clue as to where you'd be going next. :D

Either way sounds like fun...
