G'day,

I need help with planning a flights and i'm not sure what's the best way to do it.

The route is as follows:

SYD - DPS (10/07/2008)
DPS - SFO (15/07/2008)
SFO - SYD (27/07/2008)

These are approximate dates soon to be confirmed.

Can this be combined to make a RTW ticket or will it have to be booked seperatly?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

This could be done as an ATW itinerary, or could be done as two separate itineraries being SYD-DPS-SYD and SYD-SFO-SYD.

An ATW will probably be more expensive, but does give you lots of options for getting to other places if you so desire. Both OneWorld and Star Alliance products could be used. However, do note that since JetStar flights cannot be used for OneWorld Explorer fares purchased in Australia, you would either have to route to DPS via PER and travel on a Tuesday or Saturday (the days when QF75 operates), or via HKG using CX to DPS. Star Alliance will require you to route to DPS via SIN (using SQ) or via BKK (using TG).

So buying two separate tickets is probably going to the cheapest and most direct. Then it is a matter of deciding which airline you want to fly (JQ or GA to DPS, QF, UA or NZ to SFO).

hi,

thanks for that, there is one thing for sure and that's i will never fly jetstar due to bad experiences but that can be left for later. So your saying the better option would be SYD-DPS-SYD with someone like SQ and the SYD-SFO-SYD with QF?

Thanks

"Better" is always a matter of opinion. Due you have a preference for a particular airline or alliance?

You could do it all on SQ if you want, but I expect would be done with two separate tickets. So purchase a SYD-xSIN-DPS-SIN-SYD with a stopover in SIN on the way back. Use that stopover to fly your SIN-xLAX-SFO-xLAX-SIN (using SQ to LAX and UA to SFO), and then pick up the rest of your original ticket to get back to SYD.

Similarly you could use CX for the entire journey, using HKG as the break point.

You will need to do the shopping around for fares. QF is just one option to SFO and if you don't need to go back to SYD after DPS then your options through Asia are many and probably cheaper than back to SYD to use QF.

I did something similar for this back in Apr, on separate oneway tickets

SYD-DPS (Jetstar)
DPS-CGK (AirAsia)
CGK-SIN-NRT-SFO (United return, SQ CGK-SIN)

You should be able to get a cheap
SIN/CGK-SYD on any number of airlines.

You'll probably find that SIN-NRT/HKG-SFO is a lot cheaper on United than SQ, but it takes a little longer.

Oh, and you may find that this routing is suitable for a Circle Pacific Fare...
