Hi all,

time to start the honeymoon planning!

We'll be in IAH (well close enough), heading home to SYD.

I'm pushing for MLE as our main honeymoon destination, so looking into options if I get the nod of approval.

as far as I can work out best option is probably as follows:
(1) IAH-DME-SIN (stop) - SYD for 116,875 in F (zone 14 to 9 with 15% discount)
then do a separate booking SIN-MLE-SIN. This looks to be rather expensive at 59,500 return each in biz
total of 176,375 each

(2) the other option would be to go IAH-DME-SIN-MLE for 112,625 in F (zone 14 to 6 w/ discount) and then a separate
MLE-SIN-SYD for 87,125 in F (zone 6 to 1)
total of 199,750 each (with biz for MLE-SIN legs)

(1) seems to be the better option as it's cheaper miles total, and also allows us flexibility for the SIN-MLE-SIN leg to perhaps go tiger or save some miles with a Y award.

Whilst I'd love to go suites via JFK and FRA, i'm concerned that waiting until the internal IAH-JFK opened up, the award flights would get booked as I understand that's one of the most popular routes. Could book a revenue flight up there, but would then be concerned about not having a protected ticket etc.

anything I've missed? should we fly the other way around out of LAX or SFO? what would you do?

cheers
