Help with J award flight Spain to Mel

Hi, I was hoping someone could provide some advice about booking a reward flight from Spain to MEL. My wife and I are holidaying to Europe next year and, as per advice in various other threads, I booked an award flight over on QF9 in Y from MEL-LHR for mid August next year as soon as I could. We will be finishing our holiday in Spain hence looking to book a return flight on points from there. My wife has never flown J before (I've only had a few flights in J myself thru work between Aus and US on QF) and so, having accumulated enough points, I was hoping to fly J back.
I've been watching the QFF web site over the last few weeks, waiting for the flights to come available (we want to come back anytime from 20-25Sep16) but while there seems to be available award flights to DXB there doesn't appear to be any for DXB-MEL. I've looked at flights from Paris as well and not a lot of luck either. Any suggestions on alternatives I should look at or will more flights become available later (he asks hopefully ) ? Would appreciate any advice, thx in advance.

Try DXB-BNE (and book BNE-MEL as a separate ticket).

Not sure if your aware, but CX will launch a new service MAD > HKG from 2nd June 2016.
This new route will operate 4 times per week.
I was fortunate enough to obtain 2x J award seats on this route for July 2016.
We managed to get cheap seats in Y on QF for $599 return on the MEL > HKG sector.

I imagine JAL will be releasing seats for those dates over the next week. I'm not an expert on their route map but you should have options from several EU destinations as well as the Middle East via Japan, then SYD then MEL. Will burn a lot of points though.

Try DXB-BNE (and book BNE-MEL as a separate ticket).

Or you could try the multi city tool DXB/BNE & BNE/MEL.

I used the multi city to book BCN/xDXB/xSYD/BNE on a Classic in whY as I wanted EK186/QF2/QF508 & it would only offer EK186/EK435 if I did availability BCN/BNE not using the multi city tool.

If you try a multi-city search for MAD-HKG and HKG-MEL then there are a few days when J is available but you may have another brief stop in Europe.You could also look at connections via BKK and HND/NRT and also try MAD-DXB-PER-MEL.

Can't even get to the calendar to see the availability to BNE as the web site gets an error and returns me to the initial search screen. Looks to be a bit more hopeful with CX via HKG and then to other ports in Aus with ADL being quite available. The search continues! [/FONT]
