Help wanted as CC cancelled

Hi everyone, currently in LOTFAP and found out today that the bank has stopped my Earth Cards due to a fraudulent transaction ( several thousand dollars worth of stuff in Japan on one transaction). They called Shrek this morning. They want to re-issue them with a new number. This leaves me to settle hotel bill with only the Woolies EDR card. Has anyone experience of this?
Should I try to call the Woolies number to let them know I'll be doing this?
Alternatively is it possible for Westpac to pe-authorize a transaction on a card which is being frozen/ cancelled ?
Thanks in advance, I'd really like to check out tomorrow without any hassles.

FWIW I called the EDR folk prior to my first International trip this year and advised them that I would be overseas on a regular basis.

The comment back was that it was wise for me to call them and tell them. I once had a Westpac Mastercard transaction stopped in Manila because the transaction did not fit into any pattern they could see previously.

i have found that your new card no. and exp date can be given to you, but they can't give you the "security or CVC No.", so it just depends whether where you are staying need that part or not. otherwise i'd give WW a ring and tell them what you are doing.
Yes, i always ring every bank i have CC for and let them know exactly where i am going and for what time frame.
Stopping your card is great in the situation where there has been a fraudulent transaction, but, yes, it can leave you high and dry!

Thanks guys, I tried calling Woolies but as A: I was in the LOTFAP and B : couldn't remember any of the security info I didn't get too far. According to Shrek we have a personal banker at Westpac, I have passed on info from above re issuing new number and expiry date to me and Shrek assures me the PA is going to call me, fingers crossed

Good luck - I know what its like - had a Diners Card cancelled while in deepest coldest Sweden, I done what no business traveller should have to do - I used my own money to pay my hotel! (I was reimbursed and got a nice bottle of wine from Diners after our company kicked up a merry stink over the mistaken cancellation)

I had CBA call me whilst I was sitting at SFO to cancel my card due to some dodgy transactions.

Problem was this was only hours after I had cancelled a refundable F fare from United....

An anxious few days to see if the refund would still process (it did)

Update, the card has apparently been temporarily cancelled until the Princess returns from the LOTFAP which means that I have to call the Platinum desk to verify every transaction , picture the scene in the gas station tomorrow . Will let you know how I go
