Hi Bangkok experts

I have just booked flight to Bangkok on Saturday for two of us to see extremely ill family member in hospital. Any suggestions for best hotel or hotel location with easy access from airport and to Phramongkutklao Hospital. I am not familiar with the different Bangkok areas nor with public transport system.

I have Intercontinental Ambassador, Hilton Gold and Starwood Gold but while its good to use benefits from these easy access particularly to hospital is most important. We expect to be there for 3 or 4 nights.

Any advice?
Thanks

mhen,

I suggest you send a PM to JohnK as he is more likely to have the answers from personal experience that most others here.

Good luck.

The hospital looks to be relatively near Victory Monument. There are not many hotels immediately adjacent to the hospital but many a short cab ride away. If you want to be comfortable something like the Pullman Bangkok King Power would be a decent choice.

A taxi is the best way to get from the airport to your hotel. They are cheap. There is a skytrain station at Victory Monument. The Airport rail link Phaya Thai station is also nearby.

Things are relatively quiet in Bangkok since the coup. You should have no worries at all about your safety. Probably the best source of up-to-date "on the street" news is:

However Victory Monument intersection has been closed at short notice at times in the last week or so.

As a govenment / Army hospital I assume its address will be known to taxi drivers. But it might be worth printing out the address in Thai from the hospital web site - the block of text beginning with "315" at the bottom of the page:
www.pmk.ac.th
Having said that, the taxi desk staff outside the airport speak reasonable English and will make sure the driver knows where he's going for you. And a decent hotel will also be able to instruct drivers for you.

And further to timster's advice re the address, have the hospital's phone number with you. The taxi driver can ring them if required and ask for directions.

They do it all the time especially if they are unsure of the actual soi (street) to get near the building car entrance.

From friends that are in Bangkok at the moment, they say it is relatively peaceful and coup does not affect them in any way. However it always pays to be aware of what you may be getting into, things can change quickly. The Pullman is a decent hotel and close to the hospital. It is wise to get a Thai translation of your address and a little map that you can show the taxi driver, not all taxi drivers can read that well, but can understand a map, so one of your hotel and the other of the hospital. Taxi's are really cheap. Best wishes on your time spent with the family member.

Highly recommend Evergreen Place. Five mins by sky train. Great facilities . Friendly family atmosphere. Keep going back there

I have printed relevant addresses and maps.
We are at Evergreen Place now, nice to have apartment rather than just hotel room.
