Hi

I have to do the SYD-LAX-JFK run every couple of months. I have been travelling QF11/107/108/12, stopping over in LA in both directions.

Looking at some of the posts here (although they're a bit old), it appears I could get more SCs for this run if I route it differently and I was wondering if any kind soul had some advice for me.

TIA.

Just don't fly QF107 all the way, make sure to swap flights in LAX. Alternatively, route through MEL/SYD?

Already doing some maximising by not doing QF107/QF108 the whole way.

Depending on what class and who is paying the following may be applicable.

You could add stops by flying SYD-HKG-LAX or SYD-NRT-LAX for not too much time penalty (and often a better price than QF)

Within the US you could book some YUP/KUP fares and do some connecting routings. eg LAX-DFW-MIA-JFK which would book into AA First and earn 360+ SCs (MileageMonkey is down).
Have done that on the return leaving JFK at 8am and connecting to the LAX nightly flight - but it depends on your time availability and willingness to connect at various airports.

Thanks. This is what I was hoping for.

One supplementary question: I can simply route via various US airports and not actually stop over, correct?

Thanks again. This community is great!

:)

BTW, this is a business trip, but it's my business, so I'm paying :(

Change at LAX.Buy an instant upgrade fare on AA.Just as an example I looked 3 months ahead and got the following-
LAX-EWR-$914. 150 SCs
LAX-JFK-$1272. 100 SCs-as books into J.
LAX-ORD-LGA-$1272. 210SCs.
LAX-DFW-LGA-$1272. 240SCs.

Thanks very much guys!

ddron, where do you see the SCs on the AA site?

You don't! [ see Qantas FF SC's earn on the AA web site.]

You need to know the distance of each segment (individual flight number) and the booking class.

As a guide, AA provide these before booking (click on [+]).

You then up look the segments booking class 'description' (First/Business) within the American Airlines ® (AA) table here:

Then look up the actual SC's earned based on class 'description' and distance here:

Exactly as Serfty says. When searching on aa.com i always search using the price + schedule function which will show all fares including the instant up grade fare.To the left under the flight numbers will be flight details-click on that and you get the mileage. Then as Serfty says look up on QF.com-though I have printed that chart out and keep a copy with me.:shock:maybe I'm hooked?;)
I like the LAX-DFW leg as just over 1200 miles therefore the SCs go up.Lots of flights also on that sector so always available-though often not the cheapest way to get SCs.
