I am on about 700 SCs right now and have the following trips coming up:

March - SYD-SIN-CMB-SIN-CMB which will nett 100 SC
May - SYD-LAX-SYD, that's another 80SC
August - SYD-BNE-VLI-BNE-SYD, with family pooling this will be approx. 400 SC

So I'd love to reach Platinum before the August flights so we can all upgrade to Economy X, except my wife who is booked in Business Class already.

Between May 18 and 25 I need to do some travel domestically in the USA, and was planning to book W class on Delta in order to get triple SCs on those flights. This should push me over to Platinum before my LAX-SYD flight on May 25, however these SC might not post in time.

Here is my question: What will happen with the excess SC from my domestic USA flights and my LAX-SYD flight once I go past 1000 SC? Am I right to assume these will then start counting towards my renewal of platinum the following year?

I have just read a post suggesting these extra SC could get "lost" or be wasted, and f that's the case I'll just fly BE on DL rather than C+ and save some dollars.

I’m pretty sure you start accruing SCs over again with no loss of them. Where you start “losing” them is where you renew your status before the next review date. Any extra SCs go on your total, but unless you get enough to gift a gold card, the extra SCs bo nothing.

I’m just about at the “gift” level, and will give it to my wife so that when we travel together or she flies alone (very unlikely) her Velocity points are multiplied.

I’m sure I’ll be told if I’m wrong...

Ok so in theory I will hit platinum around May 19 or 20 given my US internals. That will be the start date for Platinum so all flights after that date, including LAX-SYD and my SYD-VLI flights will get credited in the first year of my new Platinum status?

And as long as I get 800 SC that will renew in May 2020? However if =I go above the 800 SC before May 2020 then those extra SC get "lost" and don't count for anything? If after May 2020, they would then count towards the 800 SC I need to renew through until May 2021?

I'm sure I'll also be told if I am wrong :)

I was awarded Platinum late because despite presenting my velocity card on check-in with a partner airline I had to apply to have the SCs that would have pushed me over the threshold through the website. Because my review date was later than it should have been, I called the platinum line and they were able to credit the flights I took between when I should have been awarded and when I was actually awarded into the next review period. Hope this helps if you get in the same situation.
