I thought I'd throw this out there to the learned members of the community as I'm a bit of a noob at all of this.

Currently QFF Silver and about 190 SC's short of attaining Gold by the 31/08 cutoff with around 70,000 points in the bank.

Is it worth trying to achieve Gold status? With all the recent changes are their any applicable status runs that would get me in the ballpark (points & pay) or has the situation been turned on its head with the program changes.

I travel a bit but all my travel is E, N, O, Q, X so the SC's aren't exactly free-flowing.

I do have a fair bit of travel coming up in the next year (NZ in Sept, Chile & Argentina in Oct, NZ in Nov, NZ in Jan, Italy in April, Spain in June, Shanghai in June, France in August + maybe 12-15 return domestic trips).

So I guess the question is what are my options for status runs or should I just fork out for QC access which I allowed to lapse.

Many Thanks

TH

I assume all those trips are in your next anniversary year. My opinion is to go for trying to get Gold, the lounge access is what will be worth it, and as Gold you get access to the Oneworld lounges overseas too. QC will only be useable when you are using a QF flight *and* there is a QC to use..how to get there I can't help with, never really got to grips with the whole ASA thing.

Well if you want status since the recent demise of mASAs you'll have to pay for it.

You'll need to determine if domestic travel QC access is worth it but I doubt there'll be too many of your international destinations where it will be available.

I don't have enough points in my account to investigate the options, but have a look at (say) ADL-xSYD-OOL return in J using points + pay. Adjust the points amount to the 70,000 you have and see what the copay is. The flights can be done in one day, and will earn 160 SC.

ADL to SYD to AKL VV and AKL to MEL to ADL VV, AKL or BNE to ADL all with QF flight code flying F on EK.
Not cheap.
Or ADL to MEL to SIN with EK J with QF flight code.
Both need returns though.

Good point. If there's no immediate use for the (rapidly depreciating) 70,000 points, you should be able to use them to save between $500 and $600 on a cash fare.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

From Adelaide you can also get Business returns to Noumea or Nadi or Auckland for just over $2,000 if that appeals more. Maybe $1,500 after using Points + Pay, plus any accommodation you might need. 240 SCs that way.

Alternatively that $1,500-2,000 you save trying to get status could buy you a bunch of nice meals/drinks in the airports you visit...

You can apply for free for an ANZ Black credit card at the moment, get 50,000 QF points and it comes with entrance free to a bunch of lounges overseas as listed here if that might help any???

The 50k plus your current 70k then isn't too far off a OW 140k award as well...

anyway all depends how you want to weigh up the options...

An alternative would be to save the $2,000 of flights for a status run and apply for a credit card which provides you lounge access at most of the international airports you are travelling to in the upcoming year.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

With the recent changes it looks like the best option is just to re-activate the QC corporate account ($300) I had for lounge access and use the points I accrue to for possible upgrades on O.S. trips.

Just noodling around and it looks like points + pay isn't available ADL-SYD-OOL anymore

It's there... search for a cash fare in business, and then tick the "View in Points" box somewhere up near the top right.

I think there's just the one word missing from that sentence .... "more".

Should it not read: Well if you want status since the recent demise of mASAs you'll have to pay more for it.

It's not like mASAs were ever free!!
