I'm travelling to the US in August and was looking at the 4th. Today I went to book my seat and it's sold out for points. I'd half expected this and was planning to use my guaranteed Platinum seat but then discovered that's only for economy! Velocity are telling me they can't do anything across a week period with them or any partner airlines.

I think I already know the answer to this but does anyone have any suggestions??

Can you suffer in PY ? seems to be availability on the day you want.

Sometimes seats are released closer to departure... but I guess you are not in a position to take that risk?

Even if you were looking to use a guaranteed reward seat, these need to be booked at least 6 months in advance.

Yeah premium might have to do. No J award seats to anywhere in the US for the entire month of August...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Buy the PE tickets and upgrade to J

Im only a newbie at this but I thought you could only upgrade with points if there was a reward seat available? I ask because I recently did this myself and the customer service person did say, "there are 4 rewards available so not a problem" and I upgraded two seats.

Yeah you can't even upgrade, it's ****.

However as of yesterday at 4pm the 9th of August had seats so I'm booked in!

Idk where your based and where your going. But you could look at etihad if your leaving from west coast (aust) and/or travelling to east coast(us).

Brisbane, New York. I found availability on the 9th of August so either someone cancelled or VA decided I could have my seat.

You cough! :) I've been searching for MEL/SYD/BNE to LAX all of August as well and (like you) noted no J availability! I was hoping (like you) somebody would cancel and a seat would open up. It seems you beat me to one on the 9th of August :)

I'll have to keep up my daily ritual of checking.

I'm actually surprised its so booked out. Normally these seats aren't a problem to get. Or at least not in my experience.
