Thanks for all the hints. Fiji, Thailand, Singers, Bali, NZ all out of frame (done them to death).

Am looking at locking into to Tokyo or the Nam. What's the J class up to Tokyo on the QF747?

We avoid QF to Tokyo like the plague.

Go with CX via HKG and stay a few nights at the Four Seasons. Great stopover and the best J cabin in the business!

I haven't been to Bora Bora but from all my friends who have been, it has been all above and beyond their high expectations.

I have Bora Bora as a must-go-to-destination for any special occasion.

Just wondering if that's on the USDM points allowable points route? Sorry, bit OT. ;)

Aust to Tahiti on NZ thru US DM is 30K return pp plus taxes however I've never seen an "I" class seat available.

In fact J award travel on NZ ex AKL to PPT/LAX is almost impossible. Getting a "U" class seat on QF is easy by comparison.

I set a flight alert on Expert Flyer ages ago for NZ "I" seats in April & haven't heard a peep nor do I expect to.

Tokyo is a great choice. Lots to do there and plenty of 5* hotels to please the missus :) When I was there a few years ago I stayed at the Conrad & the Westin and both were excellent.
I've been recently on the QF747 J ex BKK and was happy with the seat and the service. Only issue was the old IFE which didn't work well. It's probably not the best J product in the market but it's good enough IMO.

Wow. Even more great suggestions. A left field thing that came up was QF J to HKG and then off to Siem Reap for an Angkor Wat experience. So J Class QF OR CX ? Do you get the same status points on CX J as you would on QF J?

If so, then a vote for FCC Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap. Not 6 star, just very nice and comfy. The Touich restaurant is fantastic (or was in Dec 2011). Its in the back-blocks of Siem Reap - if they still do pick-ups from your hotel, do it. We had an absolute blast in their old troop carrier (and we are 'getting on a bit' :) )!

We found Lao Air surprisingly OK, if you need to use them. Lots to do out of SR than just Angkor Wat - go to the lake by tuk tuk (FCC Angkor's own are good) and take a cruise to a floating village.

Thanks all.
As an update we are going QF J class up to HK from SYD, 3 nights there and then off to Siem
Reap staying at the Royal Suite of the Privilege Floor which looks great. Back to HK and then QF J home to Syd.

Have requested upgrade to F on the way up, but not on the way back as it's a sleepy time flight :-).

Whats the the track record of J to F upgrades on this route anyone?

Thanks all.

Nice one. Plenty of great hotels in HKG to drop the bags.

In regards to upgrading......just ensure you fly the days the A380 are operating! I'd say you'll have a decent chance of Getting it.

Good choice! Just got back from Siem Reap two days ago.
Just a tip....bring plenty of USD1.00 notes. Everything is USD1.00 or 2!!
Pretty safe place as police are everywhere. Would recommend a restaurant called "Le Malraux" that serves French/Khmer fusion food. Great ambience too.
Enjoy!!

Sounds great to me, I am going to do a similar/exactly the same trip in a few months for my +1 actually

Her 1st visit to to the QF SYD F lounge, at least she already understands what my status entitles us too.....

How are you getting to Siem Reap ?

KA240 unfortunately but it's not even two hours. Just hope their are no chickens as carry-on.

Thanks all.

I would still recommend F for the return flight. It departs HKG fairly early.
