Does QF have a dedicated F check in area at LHR? If so where is it in relation to the other QF check in desks?

Does the check in counter open 3 hours before QF10 or earlier than that?

Yes they do. It is at the front section of the check-in.
IME it is not always open very early but the other check-in (J etc.) will take care of you if you arrive early. I have been able to check in 4 hours before QF10.

Thanks. Not sure that I'd get there 4 hours early. I guess it depends how early I wake up the day I depart.

An inevitable hazard for me now sadly is arriving early due to connecting OW flights on a separate ticket

And I assume you've had to collect bags and re-check? How painful.

Yes and it's an absolute pain. Of all the changes that have happened over the last couple of years this one really cuts the deepest for me
