You may have become aware of the Heartbleed security flaw which can potentially impact many websites.

I have just checked with our server administrator and have been advised that Heartbleed is "a bug in the OpenSSL library that can be used to obtain sensitive information from the server".

AFF does not use OpenSSL, so we are not vulnerable to this flaw. This means that the our member's personal details which is stored on our server is NOT vulnerable.

Like most other websites, we do use 3rd party services - such as Paypal (for payments), Aweber (for The Gazette newsletter subscription management), and Google (for email delivery). We have no control of their technical environment, but I do expect that are taking every precaution to ensure the security of their systems.
