Found a cheap deal on helloworld to Hawaii for the wife, me and bub (6 months) to Honolulu from Sydney in April. So booked it.

Rang up Hawaiian Airlines to confirm my booking (which they did), but also to see if I could obtain a bassinet (I was happy to pay a small amount).

Was quoted $140AUD per person (wife and I) one way to lock in a bassinet. So total comes to $560 AUD for the return trip!

Given that I am only paying $1500odd for the flights, this is ridiculous. Anyway I can bypass this and get my bassinet?

That's simply ludicrous!!!

My sister, hubby and little one flew NZ from MEL to SFO recently and paid around $20-25pp in each direction for a confirmed bassinet seat. Much more reasonable and I know there are others airlines which don't overcharge like HA.

The only option I can think of is trying to get it FOC at check-in, but that is obviously a pretty big risk.
