Hi All,

Any suggestions on a good hotel to stay in in Hawaii?

Most likely to be based in Honolulu, doesn't have to be beach front (but close would be nice), and doesn't need to have megafacilities (I'm going there to relax) - just a nice Hotel which isn't a total dollars fest!

Will be travelling there late May.

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to frequentflyer Hammer!

I used to visit HNL every second month to "escape Japan". For short stays I'd kip at the InterContinental, a good hotel opposite Wakikii beach. However that all changed when I rented a Condo on the beach 2 times bigger at half price. Go to Hawaii's daily newspaper site http://starbulletin.com/ and check "classifieds" and then "vacation rentals" and hopefully you'll be able to find something to budget.

Forget Honolulu, head off to one of the islands such as Maui...a far better place and a lot less tacky. Honolulu always reminds me of Surfers Paradise.

Ditto cssaus, stay off HNL, if you do stay there DO NOT stay at the W, basically an old motel done up and not at all up to the standard of W hotels.

We moved after one night to the Royal Hawaiian, big bucks but a great hotel.

The other islands are nicer, with nicer people, and much more relaxing. Just a short hop (max 1 hr) will get you to lots of places with lots to see and do. If you want to shop then HNL is the go, cheap, cheap clothes and luggage. Name shops are more expensive than BNE however (I'm talking Chanel & LV thanks to Mrs MetroAir!).

Cheers

Thanks everyone - I like the idea of the condo's, may have to follow that one up.

Which hotel is W? That you refer to - the Westin?

Thanks again!

Good advice guys - the outer islands are visually breathtaking and truely provide a relaxing experience. That said, I still enjoy my week-end/ 3-day jaunts in HNL. For that matter, I love kicking around Sufferers Paradise too, albeit for short breaks. How long are you staying Hammer? Anything over 3 days then you should seriously consider visiting at least one of the other islands.

This article states (http://starbulletin.com/2005/04/30/business/index1.html) Hawaii's average daily room rate of $163.98 for the first quarter was second in the nation only to New York. From my experience, for US$80 (half price) you can get a decent condo with ocean view near the beach with facilites, a 10 minute walk from Wakikii. For about US$120, you're on the beach, and in both instances the condos are bigger with kitchen facilities. The option to dine-in can mean serious savings on an extended break. But condo availability usually depends on timing and luck. Good luck and Enjoy :D [/url]

Nope, W, Starwood groups supposedly hip and modern hotels. There are some nice ones. W SYD is good.
