It has now been several months since QF have announced their program changes? Have the changes affected the airline you choose to travel on or made no difference?

Domestically, I fly QF as much as I ever have, but I am just about to have my third trip to Asia this year (this time in Y alas), and have chosen SQ for all three, when I could have flown QF on all three for around the same price. Can't say in each case this was just because of FF program changes, but that certainly contributed.

It hasn't reduced the amount I fly QF, just where I deposit the points. They are now going to the American Airlines AAdvantage scheme.

Being mainly a discount (but usually not deep discount) economy flyer, AAdvantage is a better scheme for me. My travel patterns easily allow me to retain AA Platinum (OW Sapphire), whereas they would only get me QF Silver (OW Ruby).

I presume domestic means within Australia rather than the pathetic domestic network QF has in NZ.

With my travel patterns now expected to be 100% domestic and no foreseeable International travel in the next 12 months, it hasn't changed my flying patterns.

Even though my wife and I have 450K FF points between us (well, I'll have 98% after I do a Family Transfer of her 100K points), we have no plans for using any of them for award travel (whether full award or upgrades) prior to 25 May. The joys of focusing on having children.

It may be many years before I look to use any large number of them for upgrades or award seats. I'll be spending my retained UC's wisely and helping out my M-i-L on her LHR trip later this year. Otherwise, my only use will be the occasional ODU on particular domestic flights worthy of use (anything over 3 hours).

I've cashed in all mine with another US trip! :)

Since it'll be 2020 before you're allowed to travel agian, lets say I become your newest newphew for 50 bucks.. 8)

I blew all my points on two return tickets to LA when I logged on New Years Day 2005.

I'm now at 37,000 points and will probably take a year to accumulate enough points for two return tickets to HK (120,000pts which is what I usually spend my points on).

That extra 20,000 points for two people is a real pain to get but I always reflect on the old days when it was 80,000 for ONE person return (MLB-HKG).

Daniel

But remember that was 80,000km not 80,000 miles (although with minimum points per flight & 0.7/km in discount Y its not a simple comparison)

But then again I got a lot of my points from my Gold ANZ Qantas Telstra Visa card in those days. It was 1:1 with bonus points for all OS spending.

Oh and not to forget car hire and hotels @ 5 pts/$ instead of 3 (or 1500 pts instead of 1000 pts). Actually at one stage didn't car hire used to be 8 pts/$ or was that on AN?

Yeah, it used to be really great. Seeing something like 5 points per Dollar was not unusual.
