Serfty very kindly gave me some details of a good status run while we are in Hnl next Feb/March (see below) but I have no idea how to book.

Do I book via the Qantas site and look for all AA flights and book as paid flights or do I use points that I have on awards flights. Sorry to sound so vague but this is the first time that I have attempted to do anything like this. My plan year ends 31/10 so won't make silver this year, but have 6 flights booked with Jetstar commencing in November onwards that might help at least with the flight requirements of 4 for the year - maybe with a decent run will make silver next year or even gold.
We arrive Honolulu 23/2/13 and have a return flight to Melbourne on 19/3/13..so have at least 2 weeks to fly over to the States- even if we did not do the full itinerary below. WE have been to Hawaii many times so happy to just hae a few days R&R at the end.

Thanks :)

SJU!

Easy 420 SC's (HNL-LAX-DFW-MIA-SJU) for $576 one-way, double for the return - plenty of QFF points as well due to distances ...

Go to aa.com and select the US site.
Choose multi-city
then first/premium with restrictions.

very easy to get a three leg flight price up by using the starting point and destination, you will need to play around a bit more to get the routing serfty put up, but its not too hard.

I am hoping that no-one provides more than this as a response... it shouldnt be too easy.

Remember when it comes to paying for an airfare on the www.aa.com website select United States as your country for the billing address then enter the same address on the first couple of lines that matches your Aussie credit card. Most importantly in the city/state/country field enter El Segundo CA 90145 or whatever suburb in the US you prefer.

The only one I remember is 90210!!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The funny thing is we were driving back to the Holiday Inn Express at LAX then there's a big sign on the freeway saying "El Segundo" & SO bursts out laughing because the name sprang to life & suddenly became real. :p

Thanks to all for your help but still could not find a good status run for my $$ for where we wanted to go so look like booking the below in Y as was $5K plus in first..If anyone has any comments or thoughts around this I am happy to take on all tips

Feb 23rd JQ Mel-HNL - paid sale fare

Feb 24 HNL - DFW
Feb 26 DFW - BNA ( Will hire car and do Blues Trail down to Memhis and back)
Mar 10 BNA - LAX
Mar 13 LAX - HNL

$1071. US plus bag charges per person

Mar 19 JQ HNL - MEL paid sale fare

Flights are with AA - looked at using some of my points on an award booking but could not get the right dates - not sure what else I can do

Any idea on what SC's if any I will earn on the above

Thanks again to all

Assuming the JQ flights earn nothing, the AA earn depends on booking class
GLMNSV - Discount Economy, BHKY - Economy
HNL-DFW 30/60
DFW-BNA 15/30
BNA-LAX 20/40
LAX-HNL 25/50
So all up between 90 and 180 SCs

The operative word on the status run is "run"... The cheap instant upgrades to Business/First are only available on transits (and generally <6hr transits I have found) so do not allow you to stop along the way.

While you can earn some nice SCs in a regular run, to get the good stuff you need basically set aside one or two days doing nothing but flying on a plane. Yeah you can often route yourself to where you eventually want to go, just go via Albuqueque or Timbuktu a few times first. ;)

I for one am looking forward to my mini-holiday-within-a-holiday in Puerto Rico next year. ;)

Why not do a cruise as there are plenty on offer ex SJU. Just don't book your flight out to mid-arvo as you need to clear US Customs as your cruise ports are outside the US.

Ill definitely look into a cruise, thanks for the suggestion :) I'd be saying at least overnight in SJU lol, partially to justify therun, other part it is a holiday and wouldn't mind experience new places! Lol
