Has Qantas A380 Melb to LAX got WIFI?

I'm no internet connection expect but why are people experiencing slow connections when flying? My only experience is my wife using it on an EK 777 from SIN-BNE and she was able to FaceTime me from the plane while I was in BNE. Zero issues or dropouts.

Because there is limited bandwidth although slowly getting better.. Airlines need to strike a balance between price/download limits to avoid having the connection overloaded

They have WIFI for Q streaming and the Q-streaming app works quite well for streaming movies and music on your phone or tablet.

For Internet, as per the media release in Feb 2016, they will be bringing WIFI to their planes in late 2016. One of my friend who recently traveled from LAX to SYD mentioned that Qantas announced availability of inflight WIFI but it didn't work after the initial 10-15 minutes so they might have started but it might take time for it to be reliable.

Yes there is limited bandwidth available and the quality of the connect will depend on how many people are using the WiFi at the same time. Does anyone know if Qantas supports CPH Travel WiFi they have particularly competitive inflight packages and we are just about to book flights for a trip out to Australia at the end of the year. If we could get unlimited inflight for the flight that would be pretty amazing, particularly with two young kids!

Welcome to AFF.

At the moment no QF International aircraft offer WiFi

And won't until mid-2020 when ViaSat launches its latest Ka-band satellite that covers the Pacific and Indian oceans.

You may also search for real world usage of CPH WiFi as it appears to miss more than hit

Comes on handy, used on AA a few times, for a small fee. I am desperately waiting to see the end of skybeds, rather than intro of wifi. ;)

I expect that it will make a return, but it requires substantial modification to the aircraft, and bandwidth will always be an issue.

My biggest gripe with Wi-Fi on international flights would be that I suspect many won’t turn the noise off for alerts e.g. messages and it’ll become harder to sleep as a result.

My domestic QF flight Syd to Adl Wednesday had free wifi, I couldn't get it work though.

No loss, I'm a fan of sitting back and having a break on a plane.

There's a card found at some of the seats on the plane explaining what to do. Presumably the process on international flights once it's available on that will be similar:

I've flown long haul on a number of airlines that have inflight Wi-Fi. That has never been a problem.
