Has anybody flown with China Southern in J. What are they like. We have flown with them within China, and they were good. I would welcome any and all views.

i think i did a couple of years ago.
tokyo-shanghai-xian.

no problems with them at all. everything was good.

Apparently Chinese aviation has come along in leaps and bounds since the terrible 90's and they have western service advisors these days, it's big business.

I wouldn't have any trouble climbing aboard.

I flew them XIY-PVG in June. Was in first, everything ok except we sat on the tarmac for an hour or so after boarding. Ostensibly because of ATC delays.

Would fly them again.

I assume you are asking has anybody flown international with CZ as you state you have flown with them on domestic route?

Have only flown once with them MEL-CAN and it was not a great experience. Have flown internationally with CA and MU also - all 3 carriers fine in J - best to avoid Y - althogh I dis have a more than acceptable Y flight with CA last Sept SIn-PEK.

Have flown with them domestically a dozen times - IMHO J class or Chinese F domestically varies little between the 3 major Chinese carriers- CA, MU and CZ.

Quality of service and overall flight experience varies greatly within each carrier - can change daily on different routes = and all 3 major carriers seem to have the same bugs. Bottom line IMHO is that ALL 3 major Chinese carriers get you to where you want to go - but if you are looking for a memorable flight experience then you might be disappointed.

You do not truly appreciate just how bad wine can taste until you have experienced famous Chinese labels like Great Wall and Dynasty at 38,000ft - any of you guys ever tasted sheep dip?

Expect delays on ALL carriers in ALL Chinese airports - seems just the norm these days.

 I haven't seen those labels at Dan Murphy's .
After this priceless comment I think they will be added to my No Fly list !

Can anyone confirm the wine list off CZ?
Actually I cannot confirm wine list MEL-CAN as I just cannot remember.

The Great Wall and Dynasty references were domestic flights as these are the only labels I have seen on ALL 3 major Chinese carriers.

I flew CZ in September from CAN to TPE (in Y).

Flight departed on time, service was good, IFE was all Chinese. Apart from that no issues & would most probably fly with them again.

Can report on Great Wall and Dynasty.

available at the supermarket under the Giordano shop on Nanjing Road Shanghai for the equivalent of about $5AUD.
it's ok when you start the 2nd bottle really........................last time at the sofitel hyland the exchange rate was NOT in our favour, so the cheapest bottle of wine in the 505 Bar there was about $60AUD.
hoping exchange rate is better in April 2011. will report back.
flying MH this time not China Southern.
had neighbours though that flew back China Southern J class and said it was very good, and they are a very picky couple too.
