Hanoi: Melia or Pan Pacific

I have an Amex $400 travel credit from the Explorer expiring in the near future and with a Hanoi transit en route to Europe later this year, thought spending it on a hotel might be a good idea.

Melia and Pan Pacific both pop up on Amex Travel as options through Hotel Collection or some other promo offering 2 nights for circa $400-500 with $100 F&B credit, one category upgrade, late check out etc.

Am wondering if anybody has experience of either property or familiarity with the locations to advise on which would be the better choice.

For the typical tourist visit to Hanoi, Melia is better located, IMO, but the PP is not a great distance from the action. If you're happy riding pillion on a Grab bike you can get around Hanoi quickly and cheaply. That said, I would not stay out west where the Intercon, JW Marriot and Sheraton are.
