Hi all,

I was talking to a SG friend of mine and I commented that I always ask for my jacket to be hung up, do most of you when flying Y get your jacket hung up, offer for it to be hung up or don't ask or get refused?

I tend to be in front row of whY and hang it up myself if on a 763

I've only ever asked a suit to be hung up a few times, but I've never been knocked back. In Y it's how politely you ask for things, the more politely (and non demanding) the more likely it is that the FA's will do things for you which go outside the scope of a Y ticket.

For short flights 1 or 2 hours it doesn't really matter. If they offer then fine if they don't no worries. For longer flights I am typically dressed casually, so not such an issue.

But once on a Qantas flight from MEL to BNE. The CSM offered to hang up the guys jacket in 4C, but not mine in 4A. We were both platinums as I have seen him in the J lounge quite often been in row with him on the same flights, I was a bit confused why I didn't get the offer as well. Maybe there was only one hanger left. Anyway the middle seat was free so I could put it there.

And on the topic of suit jackets it is amazing to see how many crumpled ones you see, for some guys it looks like he has been sleeping in it. For business I like to take pride in my appearance. I would never put my jacket in the overhead locker likely to get crushed or crumpled.

What is this thing you call a suit?

The only jacket I travel with is my leather one for keeping me warm in cold destinations. It does not complain about being in the overhead locker when I am seated in Y.

My "CNS Suit" is made from quality denim and comes with closed-toe footwear ;)

... An perhaps some form of "collar" on a short sleeve shirt!

Sadly suits are the only option for me most days :(

One feature I like about the 734s in Row 5/6 is the good old suit hook on the back of each seat.

Assuming the middle seat is empty, a handy little option IMO!

I have been pressing the boundaries of office etiquette by wearing dark blue jeans (a designer brand starting with A and ending in I) a business shirt and a dark blue blazer which I had my tailor remove the flashy brass buttons and replace with black (plastic?) buttons.

I have always had the FA's ask if I want my coat or jacket hung up when in the first couple of whY rows.
It's funny to watch them trying to figure out which J passenger it belongs to when preparing the cabin for landing ;)

I usually pop my suit in the coat storage place. When I fly I tend to be in the front row so it is easy for me to just get to my seat and reach around to the coat closet.

I wear suits all the time and I do not like crushing it in the overhead bins.

Regards
Daniel

Yep, they often offer but if they don't, I sometimes ask and they always hang it up. Of course I often have a spare seat next to me and am happy to leave it there if the FA's look really busy.

Usually in the front two rows of Y - about 40% of the time they offer, the rest I hang it up myself (if the locker is easily accessible. If not, I usually just put it on the seat next to me or on my lap).

Cheers,
- Febs.

As I am always in Row 23, and one of the first to board, I grab hang my suite jacket up and put my shopadocket boarding pass in the pocket. It's always amusing to see whether the FA who hands back the jackets in J will dare to walk amongst the riff raff in Y and give me my jacket, or shut the cupboard violently in protest :)

I agree with previous posters in that I wear designer suits, and would never, ever place my jacket in an overhead locker. Crushing the jacket can permanently destroy the shape.

+1 with boarding pass in pocket.

Arh, but which way is the boarding pass facing? So you can see the flight/seat number or so you can see WP/status? ;) (Or even more extreme, sitting in exit row, and seeing other pax intentionally putting their BP's with WP clearly visible....:D)

Last flight I had this where the pax in row 30+ had put his jacket away and then taken mine instead - the crew spent a lot of time trying to find the original pax until I showed them the BP in the pocket. I hadn't even seen the pax retrieve "his" jacket...

Shopper docket for me so it is a tiny bit of paper stuffed in the pocket - the jingle of luggage tags is a much obvious way to display my magnificence.
