Hand baggage only

I'm from UK. I'm doing PER-DPS soon. First time on Jetstar. Hand baggage only, so I anticipate I can go straight to the gate. Do they weigh cabin bags at the gate in Perth for international flights? I was going to purchase the +7kg add on but found out that they don't sell it on this route.

Jetstar will absolutely weigh your luggage. They will also make you put your personal item on the scales at the same time, in my experience.

Yep. But if you buy extra/any luggage they usually won’t. This is what I do.

Currently extra carry on for PER - DPS on JQ is not available and the 7kg included in ticket is all that is offered. Speaking from my experience on this flight with several flights per year, I do online check in go straight to the gate with a backpack and have never had the weight checked.

We were hand baggage only. Allowance was 7kg.

We had two cabin bags, with a combined weight of 13 kg per person. But it was not possible to upgrade cabin bag allowance on this route..l to 14kg which was the original plan.

So we decided to pay for one checked bag each.

Used mobile check in but it didn't issue boarding passes because it was necessary to go to the check in desk for documentation check.

Handed over the trolley bags that would normally go in the cabin with us.

That left us with a back pack each which was not weighed at the check in desk or at the gate.

I suspect, with the $40 each for a checked bag, you might have been better off buying an el cheapo case from a $2 shop and combining your 14kg into that!

From memory, when my daughter has flown with one of the kids JQ MEL-DPS return, she has only purchased checked bag for one passenger.
This was done during the booking process, might be different after booking but prior to flight.
