Greenland expedition cruise August 2025

I'm getting antsy about the lack of details for the trip though .... they say final details will be sent a month before departure. A MONTH. That's like 2 minutes!

Given they are selling excursions in Kangerlussuaq and Icefjord I'm guessing there's chunks of time there ... but how much, who knows? Can we organise our own tours then? No idea! The control freak in me is not happy!

Thanks for reminding me about the tours!

My guess is that we'll be at Ilullisat for the day and you could probably do their paid tours in the am and pm. I'd be dubious about taking any tour not organised by the cruise. You get stuck somewhere, you stay! But they do say to 'reach out' so I'll be making enquiries tomorrow :)

Reply from Albatross:

In Ilulissat, we offer three additional optional activities: a full-day excursion with a hiking option, AirZafari Flightseeing, and Icefjord Sailing. The Oqaatsut day hike is the longest activity, taking approximately 6–8 hours. If you choose to participate in the hike, there won’t be time for other activities. However, if you choose Flightseeing or Icefjord Sailing, you can do both, as they are scheduled to allow for participation in both experiences.

They sent me a PDF flyer, which I've attached - hope that works.

There is a weight limit for the flight :oops:

Have booked the boat trip at Ilullisat. Would do the flight except I'm too much of the 'fuller figure' 🤣

They say the Kangerlussuaq excursions would take place on arrival and departure (notwithstanding the published schedule doesn't seem to accommodate this), but with the flights yet to be scheduled, they can't guarantee these will run.

Would love to do the hike but $295USD is incredibly steep! May as well do the flight at that price. Wonder if you can 'combine' weight limits with someone else? Our group has 20-30kg spare each.

I can see a bunch of walking paths on my maps app so might DIY.

I received an invitation to participate in a webinar about my cruise last week, which I did. I think it was worthwhile and now I'm even more excited. There was question time at the end, but they'd covered most things by that point.

Ooh I hope they do that for us too!

From what I can tell from their website, they don't provide parkas, which I find pretty amazing. In my other arctic/Antarctic cruises, Ponant and SilverSea provide bright red waterproof and well insulated parkas, not least so they can see you. They also have a handy transparent small pocket on the parka sleeve for holding your room key-card, as you get scanned off and back on the ship every excursion.

If anyone sees differently wrt parkas, pls let us know.

Reason I'm looking at this now, is that I'm about to disembark my Ponant cruise tomorrow and I was going to leave the parka behind, as its bulky and heavy for luggage. But I'll now be keeping it. PITA.

Also, if you are sensitive to light when sleeping, bring a roll of wide tape and maybe something like a length of cloth. It will be light 24/7 and on my Ponant vessel, there is a lot of light leakage along the top of the curtains and at the edges. Albatross might be better, but I'll be armed with materials able to block off the edges letting in light.
