Great value at Sofitel Wentworth, Sydney

I've had a couple of good cheap stays at the Wentworth over the past 6 months - can't see why they have lowered prices (for LeClub members at least) - has Sydney CBD hotel availability hit a bit of a glut? I can't see any diminution in the quality of the Sofitel.

Best value ever today - a 2 night booking in a couple of weeks for $135/night! That's what you'd expect to pay for an Ibis.

Members special - no breakfast, no cancel, no refund, but as an Accor Plat, I can expect a room upgrade and will get access to the Lounge for evening drinks and brekky.

It's a lovely hotel. Used to be my base in SYD years ago before moving my loyalty to SPG. Even the interior rooms are nice! This rate is really tempting and I've yet to take advantage of the complementary Accor Plat I got from AMEX so will definitely consider Sofitel next time I'm in town.

Which dates?

I checked a couple of random dates in he next 2-3 weeks and price was $300-$400!

Website has an ad for $174.

On ANZAC day weekend Sofitel Sydney was $137 per night on the Sunday.

I find the rate is the cheapest on Friday night and Sunday night.

Not the Sydney Sofitel but Melbourne - excellent rates for mid July so breaking our Grand Hyatt tradition for some Sofitel experience.

it may be a result of inbound tourism from china moving lower down the wealth scale - my go-to in melbourne (Sheraton) is Chinese owned and saw a lot of tours last year with rooms going for 350 a night, now I have been seeing 199 a night quite regularly.
