Qantas is currently offering flights between Sydney and Launceston (via Melbourne) for $89. This would earn 20 status credits one-way, making it $4.45 per status credit. That's about the lowest I've seen for Aussie domestic flights in a while.

Travel dates are 19 July to 15 September 2016. Also available for $95 from 3 May - 23 June.

Thats a long way out. I was tempted but not for those dates - my year ends in April.

I've never been to Tasmania so I am interested. I have a reciprocal club in Launceston so might try it for lunch some time in winter with some friends. How does one explain "a status run" to the uninitiated?

The timings of the flight lend to having a nice long 3 hr lunch, then head back to the airport and home. Mind you, it's a long day - you leave SYD at 0900 and get back to SYD about 2100. A twelve hour day for 40 SCs, even if it's only $180.

Where's your sense of adventure? I want to do one of these in January but price is $179 each way.

Not as good as $89 but there are $109 fares each way... just look at 28 May as example.

There's been another slight price drop. This route is currently selling for $198.02 return for many dates, for example in August.

Just a thought for the serious status runners... the actual fare component is only $127.66 return, with taxes making up the rest. Is there any reason that you couldn't book this with an additional comfort seat? AFAIK, comfort seats earn points & status credits but taxes are not applicable. So, if I'm not mistaken, you could earn 80 status credits for this trip for a total of $325.68, or $4.07/SC.

Is my logic correct here?
