Government rate - I.D. required

I looked at Gov't rates for a booking, but it was considerably dearer than Best Available Rate......never mind the better AP rates and AAA rates, so I'm wondering why bother?

It is very hotel specific.....some rates are much better, other are not.

It would appear the best rates are limited to a standard Queen room (where as a King room might be much dearer than the BAR).

But hopefully that becomes a king on executive floor with Diamond status.....

from my experience and my email also ends in .vic.gov.au...i generally find it is not a problem to get government rates if offered. It really depends on what events are happening in the city you are staying..eg Cairns Hilton no problem anytime but Adelaide Hilton is a problem, especially Clipsal 500 time.

OK, I've now done it......a standard quinella!

Gov't rate (best rate advertised) and South Wharf!

For those who've casually followed my South Wharf failures, I've now booked the family in for 4 days on the Gov't rate. Between myself and my +1, we have three forms of Gov't ID (2 for me, 1 for her).

Would anyone like to bet on the success odds of this quinella? Does Gov't rate apply to clearly family stays (booked 1 x family queen room and 1 x king guest room....hopefully with upgrade). What does the brains trust think of my odds? Rates were great, $199/room/nite!

I've booked the government rate at the Hilton Akl for bossreggie's wine lunch Do in April, so I'm interested to know what ID, if any, is requested.

Have been asked for Government ID at Gold Coast, HSW and Perth. Only the once at each of these locations mind you and have stayed multiple times now.

Even got asked for proof of my AAA membership (and took a photocopy of it!) in a rather average regional UK Hilton this week!

A word of warning security wise - be careful using a Gov Rate outside of Aust/NZ/US/UK as a number of countries obtain guest information from hotels with "foreign government officials" staying there

I use to work for a large corporate and I was travelling for leisure and at check in mentioned about corp rate and all I had to do was show a business card.

Got the rate.

All good

Was this with Hilton? Did your employer have a corporate rate already negotiated or was it just a set % discount?

No it wasn't with Hilton but it was a hotel that many of the staff had stayed at over the years.

No ID requested altho. I did bring it;)

Never been asked for ID except in the US on the Govt rate.

Do you have an Australian ID? If so, have they accepted it in the US? I've just gotten a state government ID and hope to be able to have this as an option when travelling in the UK and US.

No ID required on the weekend for Govt Rate at HSW ( we forgot to bring it anyway so that's probably a good thing)

Beardoc - Hi
Have just returned from a trip to the US where I did some flying on some new helo's that we are looking at
No probs with the ID on 5 out of 6 Hilton hotels
Last Hotel it took me three days before a nosy parker very good looking but not so clever coughalicious front desk princess said that the check ID box had not been ticked. I asked to look at it and then ticked the box with my pen and said "ther you go Darlk all fixed" before she promptly asked the other guy there if it was acceptable

he laughed - all fixed

Fantastic - this means that Government rates are another option for the trip at the end of the year. Thank you for letting me know!

I see a few docs have posted on here, so what do you guys show for ID to prove you are government?I'm wondering if a staff badge for a state hospital is sufficient or if you all do other government work somehow? Please PM me if you don't want to post it openly, thanks!
