Not quite Luddites here but I do prefer using a credit card . However considering whether to link a card to Google Pay for quick easy payments in small shops eg coffee shops, bakers delight lol those kinds of places .
The phone is always accessible , the wallet can be lost in the depths of the handbag
Any pros or cons?

Love it, rarely have trouble using it these days in Australia. Only continue to use physical card out of habit, but almost always use contactless. In theory google pay should work everywhere contactless works.

Only notable con is if using for public transport eg. in Sydney, need to use the same method (google pay or physical card) for all taps to ensure fares are recognised as being the same traveller and aggregated to a day pass etc if appropriate.

@exceladdict any issues with UK or suchlike ?
We wouldn't use Google pay as we have the old people's senior card lol
Google pay was fine on the tube, though Mrs Excel had some trouble with her iPhone (apple wallet or whatever the equivalent is), we think it was because the card seemed to be in her apple wallet twice and may have had multiple virtual numbers.

I don't recall any major embarassing card-didn't-work scenarios but I generally always have the physical card with me as some places always ask for it (hotels etc) and to avoid unnecessary interactions when restaurants give you the bill in a folio etc.

The main problem I have with google pay is the message ‘we are updating’… which can sometimes take days. Yes, days! My primary card is always available during this ‘updating’ period, but I cannot access anything else in the wallet… so other loyalty cards or secondary credit cards.

It’s a ‘thing’ this updating… lots of other posts on the web describing the frustration, but none have a solution, other than ‘just wait’.

It has got better, it used to be during ‘updating’ you couldn’t use any card, but now at least they have the default primary card.

Interesting, not sure I've ever seen that message, possibly device dependent?
